Are you struggling with managing the stressors in your life? Are you contemplating therapy to help you with your mood, anxiety, irritability, or life transitions? I am a compassionate licensed psychologist who works with adult individuals and couples on a variety of issues, including: relationships, depression, anxiety, anger management, parenting issues, grief/loss, abuse, and trauma.
Hello and welcome to my page, I'm glad you are here! I recently opened a private practice in Excelsior, MN called Healing with Heart Integrative Psychotherapy. I have a master's degree in counseling and additional training in marriage and family therapy and love working with couples, families, and individuals. I am also the co-owner of Spirit of the Lake Yoga and Wellness Center.
A client who comes to me with honesty, is willing to work towards their goals is an ideal client. Anxiety, trauma, depression and family problems are problems that I treat with skill and sensitivity. Parents who need help parenting, children who suffer from a trauma, teens who are depressed and stressed out, couples who can't figure out why they are fighting so much when they really love each other, wives who struggle with low self esteem, people of any age who are very lonely, all need someone to help them sort out their challenges. "We are all just trying to do life!" That often that means asking for help.
Welcome, and thank you for taking the time to learn more about me! I have over 15 years of experience working in the mental health field in various settings--including inpatient, outpatient, inner-city clinics, schools and private practice. I specialize in the treatment of Anxiety Disorders and ADHD. My passion for the field stems from my personal experience with it--overcoming a debilitating anxiety/panic disorder and accompanying depression. It was the scariest, most difficult time of my life. However, I made a promise to myself that if one day I could overcome my debilitating anxiety, then I would help others to do the same.

Psychotherapy is simply a conversation designed to help you understand yourself more completely. Rather than providing answers, it helps you identify what is interfering with your ability to live in a satisfying way. I have helped people sufferring from depression, anxiety, and relationship problems - even when previous attempts at treatment have failed. Meaningful change is possible in an environment of mutual respect and safety, where you can tell your own story at your own pace. I work with both individuals and couples.
Congratulations! You’ve ascended the ranks & you’re in the big time. Problem is, you've won the battle but you’re losing the war. Your job is the only place where you’re #winning. But you’re not happy there. You feel trapped & drowning in responsibility. Quitting isn’t an option, so you displace your feelings onto your family & employees. They are all sick of you constantly losing your $h!t. You’re turning into your father & you hate yourself for it. But you don’t know how to NOT act like this. You’ve tried. Sheer willpower got you far in your career, but it’s not improving your attitude or sanity. Now, you’re a workaholic-alcoholic

I believe that a successful therapeutic relationship can become the catalyst to positive change, one interaction, one session at a time. Therapy sessions with me are targeted to provide security in the vulnerability required to do the deep and restorative work necessary to make positive change. My job as a therapist is to create a relationship that honors that space and guides my clients through growth personally, in their relationships, and their lives as a whole. My background and experience in child psychology lends itself to insight into parenting as well as reflection upon family of origin as it manifests in the present
My ideal client is 12 or older and deals with depression, anxiety, or a mood disorder. They may also be exploring gender or sexuality. They want to process their feelings and gain skills and perspective to manage issues that come up.
This is not how it’s supposed to be. Tuning out the pain works some days. Others, it is relentless, overwhelming. It can hurt to blink. Thank goodness there’s work. the kids. the dog. They give a reason to get out of bed – avoid the guilt. No one understands. Going along with my boss or partner seems so simple at the time - until it turns sour. Irritability comes out of nowhere. Snap! Then crash! At least social distancing makes isolating more acceptable. It’s all so exhausting. Like having the gas pedal and the brake to the floor, at the same time. ‘Coping’ and ‘managing’ are a joke. Is relief too much to ask?!
I employ an integrative approach to therapy that implements various treatment modalities, nutrition, physical activity/movement and psychoeducation. I believe in working collaboratively so that together we can reach a deeper level of understanding, consider new perspectives, behaviors, and feelings towards challenging life situations.
Quality of life is determined by balancing life's critical components. Dr.Alfred Adler created Individual Psychology based on these components. Adler developed :
OUR LIFE TASKS
1. An adequate sense of self
2. The connection to a significant other.
3. A purpose driven life.
4. Spirituality, a belief in something more than
Dr. Adler believed being unbalanced in any of these areas created uncomfortable thoughts and feelings. A continuation of and consequence of these thoughts and feeling is psychological dysfunction.
Are you ready to combat stress and anxiety? Do you want to heal difficult personal or professional relationships? Is it time to increase your awareness of emotional triggers and learn to manage anger, grief and depression? Together we can work to discover solutions and facilitate a change process while you achieve results to become more fulfilled, proactive and confident in yourself and your relationships. Our sessions can take place in person at our office, or you can meet with me from the comfort of your home via a confidential and HIPPA compliant virtual platform. The goal is the same: you become the best YOU that you can be!

The condition of our relationships are crucial in determining peace and contentment in our lives. As someone trained in marriage and family therapy, I focus on the space between you and your loved ones. Sometimes, there are past histories of resentment, nonproductive communication styles or cognitive filters that are causing problems. Sometimes, our way of being in the world or the structure of our systems keep us stuck in problematic cycles and patterns. In our work together we can begin to create new skills, and new pathways to relational healing.
