I enjoy working with individuals and couples who are struggling with issues stemming from a loved one's or their own substance abuse/recovery, depression or post-traumatic stress from childhood or adult trauma .
Are you feeling overwhelmed, easily irritated, frequently worried, or sad? Do you procrastinate or avoid making decisions? I often hear the phrase "I'm not sure what the problem is but I know I am just not happy." Maybe you just experienced a major life stressor or maybe you have struggled with these issues for years. I offer a safe and supportive environment where you can begin to explore what the problem really is, move towards solutions that will help you cope with challenging life situations and release yourself from any "old baggage" that may be hanging on.

I specialize in EMDR and have seen clients make significant progress healing from trauma .
The world is a challenging place as we learn about - or experience - harmful events. Perhaps you have uncertainties in work, a relationship, or otherwise. I understand that coping with your own personal challenges can be daunting at times. I effectively use feedback, self-evaluating questions, and reflection -- leading to happiness and fulfillment. I also tell my clients that I might have certain insights by looking at patterns, behaviors, and habits they don't realize are present. It's important to me that new beginnings come from within and not from my direct advice or influence. Sessions via computer and phone offered.

I work with individuals who have experienced trauma during childhood or as adults. Trauma alters our psychophysiology (the way in which the body and mind interact) leading to a variety of mental health disorders including anxiety, depression, addiction and some personality disorders. My main approach to treatment is helping clients understand and manage their autonomic nervous system. When clients learn how to co-regulate and self-regulate, they can manage their symptoms, emotions, thoughts and behaviors more effectively. They also feel safer in their bodies which improves their relationships and sense of self.

Each stage of our lives brings its own challenges. And if our lives so far haven’t been particularly rosy… experiences from our pasts can make our emotions overwhelming and unpredictable, and we can feel out of control. They can keep us from forming close and healthy relationships, leaving us isolated and alone. I provide individual therapy for adolescents and adults who have experienced adversity in their lives. I provide treatment for traumas and stressors that we sometimes experience growing up including household dysfunction, emotional and physical neglect, abuse, and generational trauma .

I have found teaching DBT skills (dialectical behavior therapy) is helpful for those seeking new coping skills and use EMDR when working through trauma with someone.
Therapy is a sacred, safe and healing space for one to engage in self-exploration and acceptance without judgment, criticism or guilt. I am passionate about working with individuals, couples and families and believe that having authentic and meaningful relationships are core to becoming & staying healthy individuals. I have 10 years of experience working with people struggling with disordered eating, anxiety, depression, trauma & all the different issues people face from age 12 and up. My goal is to help people find and use their voice, face their fears, and be honest with themselves.

Life is complex and we can process it together. As a clinical social worker, my approach to mental health is rooted in unconditional positive regard for the client. We identify your strengths and the complexities of the systems you are a part of, and hold a trauma -sensitive space. I see the therapeutic relationship as a place for empowerment, understanding and welcoming your inner wisdom, seeking calm and resolve, and being gracious with ourselves along the healing journey.

If you are in a marriage or relationship where you think it would be easier to "go it alone" or you feel like you are "not enough" for your partner or that you just "don't communicate," than I can help. I will work with that part of you that does not want to change. If you are willing I believe that I can help you and your partner/spouse figure out how you get stuck and how you can get back to the relationship you once had and better! I also focus on healing developmental trauma and other traumatic events in their lives.

I specialize in working with individual adolescents & adults through issues of transitions/adjustments, depression, anxiety and trauma .
Looking for a therapist can be hard, frustrating & reinforce our depression or anxiety. We see countless profiles & pictures of people we think may not understand what is going on in addition to what we are experiencing or already experienced. The profiles we do have the courage to click on may reduce our fears a little yet does not share much regarding if this will be a good fit. As a woman of color, who is married & a mom, I understand the struggles with transitions/adjustments, depression, anxiety & trauma . I would love to help you be seen & heard through our sessions & in your life.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
