Please know, though I hold these values, spirituality will never be forced – you get to set the tone.
It takes courage to reach out for support, and I’m glad you’re here. Life and relationships can often present us with circumstances that are quite challenging and confusing, and it can be hard to sort through these situations alone. If you’ve found yourself stuck in pain, if you’re unsure of how to relate to or communicate with those you love, if you’ve been facing spiritual wonderings or challenges, or simply if you want to pursue freedom and growth in your life in any way - you’ve come to the right place. I would consider it an honor to hear your story and provide a safe, compassionate space for you to feel seen, known, and heard.

This unique combination of education and experience allows me to bring Christian spirituality into the sessions as clients desire.
I offer therapy to individuals, couples and families who want a welcoming, safe place to process what is happening within or among them. From clients, I learn how they see the world, how they understand themselves, what patterns create their interactions, and where they want to go from here. Clients are empowered to determine their goals and create new perspectives on themselves and the world around them. The hope is that, during sessions, clients will gain new skills and thought patterns for the benefit of the relationships that give their lives meaning.

For clients who request it I explore with them how issues of faith and spirituality can support their journey of healing.
Are you feeling overwhelmed, easily irritated, frequently worried, or sad? Do you procrastinate or avoid making decisions? I often hear the phrase "I'm not sure what the problem is but I know I am just not happy." Maybe you just experienced a major life stressor or maybe you have struggled with these issues for years. I offer a safe and supportive environment where you can begin to explore what the problem really is, move towards solutions that will help you cope with challenging life situations and release yourself from any "old baggage" that may be hanging on.

I feel very good that I can meet people where they are no matter what, because I too have been many places. When issues arise in our lives, I find they can be opportunities to learn and to heal. My therapy is affirming, yet challenging, radically accepting, yet moving for change. Our conflicts, collisions and issues that bring us in for therapy are indications of deep wounds and/or beliefs about ourselves that need some kind of attention. Come on in and let's talk it through. I have extensive experience with trauma, addictions and abuse, anxiety and depression, sexual and gender identity, and spirituality .

I seek to build on clients' unique strengths, bringing in spirituality , creativity, humor, and problem-solving.
Therapy is a process of investigation and change, looking deeply at what works and what doesn't work. While some answers may lie in the past, you and I will work together to understand your life, relationships, and desire for change as they are right now. Change begins the moment you recognize the need for it. I have the skills, compassion, and desire to help you explore new possibilities and practice the change you want. Examples of issues I have worked with include depression and anxiety, infertility, life transitions, relationship difficulties, parenting, and family of origin and attachment issues.

I'd be a good fit if you're motivated, curious, open, flexible in thought, committed to the therapy process, and willing to do hard work. I'll work hard, too. If your needs and goals are to feel calmer, have a more integrated sense of self, feel more secure and confident, to grow and expand your thought processes, to organize past life events, develop/increase spirituality , work towards independence, and promote holistic well-being through the use of evidenced-based techniques and theories, I'd be a good fit! I also love pets. I have 2 dogs & 2 cats. I have training and certification in pet loss and grief. I value all relationships.

It is not easy to ask for help when our pain is so personal and private. My goal is to foster a safe environment to help individuals share concerns and sensitive topics that need healing. My goal is to empower participants to take the lead in their therapy and collaborate with them to ensure therapy is moving at a comfortable pace. I see each person as unique and special, therefore their journey in treatment needs to be created specifically for them. I believe therapy can be impactful and I am passionate about seeing healing and freedom develop for each and every individual.

I've been a psychotherapist for over 40 years. What I have found is the most powerfull tool is the relationships I develop with my clients which are often deeply meaningful, based on understanding the depth of the person, often extending to the inclusion of spiritual experience. I am a fully trained marriage and family therapist, and I have graduated from the Minnesota Psychoanalytic Institute as a certified Psychoanalyst. The American Psychoanalytic Institute has awarded me the status of a Training and Supervising Analyst, the highest level of certification awarded. I want to help people find their own sense of truth.

As a therapist I facilitate the process of self-awareness which enables us to live fully in the present. This entails working with the parts of us mired in the past with anger or resentment or into the future, frozen by anxiety. As we heal these reactive parts of us we are able to live consciously in the present with freedom and joy. I use a number of modalities including Internal Family Systems,Relational life work for couples, guided imagery, and self-soothing tools like breath work and meditation. I work with individuals, couples and groups.and have been doing so for over 34 years.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
