Life is about living, not coping or managing symptoms. That is my mission: to help people get unstuck so they can live life again. I enjoy teaching individuals about psychology, the science behind it, and how it can help you live more fully. I tailor effective psychology treatments to each person’s unique needs. With intentional listening, I incorporate psychology, education, and skills into each conversation. I especially enjoy working with people who have complex health concerns or who have felt dismissed or judged in medical settings.

Somatic Experiencing... tried talk therapy before but feel that talking about the hard things isn't as helpful as you would like it to be? My approach to therapy is to track activation in your nervous system as you share your story - helping you attune to the experiences of distress, anxiety, or trauma symptoms. This is your nervous system communicating to you about your experiences in the world, past and present. Together, we can work with this felt sense to expand your resilience, reduce activation, and improve how you cope. You will learn to recognize and expand internal, external and missing resources to aid in your healing.

I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy, biofeedback and neurofeedback to help people, including reducing the need for medications. I work with Liz Nash, MA, LMFT, AT-RBC and Brenda Hightshoe, MA, LPCC. We treat anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, traumatic brain injury and learning disabilities. CBT helps you create really useful thinking and get skills like the habit of breathing slower everywhere you go. We use quantitative EEG "brain mapping" with the Neuroguide normative database to help explain symptoms and target neurofeedback, which helps clients learn to pay attention without drugs, relax, and feel more like themselves.

I believe that people need a therapist who has the ability to understand their experience. Once a person has the experience of being understood, a foundation is established to work through more vulnerable and difficult material. It is this proces of establishing a safe and understanding experience and working through of material that allows the possibility of change and the realization of one's true self and potentials.

Currently accepting telehealth clients, please schedule via our online portal, email, or call Affinity Psychological Services. Hello! Thank you for reading my professional profile! In terms of an "ideal client," mine is someone who is ready to learn new skills and make changes in their lives. I believe the core benefit of therapy is working to get off “auto-pilot” by improving mindfulness and awareness of automatic thoughts. Once mindfulness is improved, we can work together to change distorted thoughts into something more rational/adaptive. I seek to help you feel more regulated, or calm, when strong emotions present themselves.

I have 35 years of experience helping people find a way to live a richer and more satisfying life. Therapy is about empowering individuals and coming face-to-face with adversities. Clients are helped to explore past experiences that impact current emotions and behaviors. In order to change you need to resolve internal conflicts that lead to emotional distress, unwanted behaviors and physical symptoms. I help to create a safe place to begin to talk about the meaning of your feelings and thoughts. I create a space where you can explore whatever is on your mind and we think together about your feelings, thoughts, and dreams.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
