I specialize in the treatment of most anxiety symptoms and disorders as they manifest in adults and adolescents, including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), obsessive/intrusive thoughts and excessive worry, social anxiety, test and performance anxiety, agoraphobia and some forms of OCD.
Ever increasing levels of stress and anxiety are commonplace in modern life. We have become so accustomed to living in this chronic state of hyper arousal that we now consider it to be a "normal" baseline of daily functioning. Unfortunately, for many this state of increased anxiety can begin to feel debilitating, demoralizing, and inescapable. It's hard to describe the feelings of hopelessness and isolation that those who suffer from severe anxiety face. It can wreak havoc on our most important relationships, limit our ability to grow, to be authentic, playful and creative, flexible, empathic and patient with ourselves and others.

I also work with most mental health issues including depression, anxiety, OCD, and trauma - and with folks just trying to get unstuck.
At some point in our lives, many of us look around and realize we no longer like the life we've built - or maybe even who we've become while living it. We may even feel we should like it, but somehow it no longer fits. I build relationships with clients, creating a safe place to explore and express these feelings. Therapy creates change by examining the experiences and beliefs that contribute to feeling stuck and make it harder to hear our own, often elusive, inner knowing. I love working with clients to address the issues holding them back so they can create a life and self that excites them again.

Whether client's struggle with anxiety, OCD, perfectionism or an eating disorder, my therapeutic style is to take a compassionate and nonjudgmental approach in our work together. I strive to meet clients wherever they are, and help them move towards where they want to be based on their own goals and values. Our therapists have specialized clinical training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and exposure and response prevention for OCD.
We work with individuals of all ages with anxiety, mood and related issues across the lifespan. When working with younger children, we meet with parents without the child for the first evaluation session, and then meet with the child individually during the second evaluation session. Our center also routinely works with college-aged and young adult clients. Here, our therapists incorporate components of therapy geared specifically to this age group: identity development, fostering independence and autonomy, and helping clients navigate the challenges experienced during their transition into adulthood.

I currently work with individuals 18 and older and my areas of special interest include anxiety, OCD, and climate-conscious therapy (support for anxiety/distress about our changing ecosystem).
I focus on learning who a person is uniquely, and I take an active role in treatment, offering genuine warmth and support as well as practical feedback. I draw from various theoretical approaches but commonly use cognitive behavioral therapy, mindful self-compassion, exposure response prevention, and internal family systems. As a licensed clinical social worker I have had the pleasure of working in cities across the United States with a wide range of individuals from a variety of backgrounds.

Getting tangled up with anxiety can feel like playing tug-of-war. Worrying, ruminating, and "what if" thoughts take up can take up so much of your time, making it hard to enjoy the things you love. Maybe you've spent your days trying to fix the way you feel through yoga, meditating, exercising, and even traditional talk therapy. But nothing gives you much relief. You are still stuck and wondering how to get out. If you struggle with anxiety, panic, intrusive thoughts, or OCD…. you are not alone. You are not crazy. You can be back to your old self again. Therapy can help you to be present in your every day life.

According to a recent study, the average delay from symptom onset to an accurate OCD diagnosis is 11.
Are you often stuck in your own head, overwhelmed, or experiencing thoughts on a loop? Have others pointed out your "perfectionist" or "people-pleasing" tendencies before? Does it feel like you are slowly distancing yourself from the world? If you resonate with any of these experiences, you're not alone. Many of my clients come to me feeling exactly like this. Together, we can explore these challenges, understand their roots, and work towards a brighter, more fulfilling future that is grounded in your values. You deserve a life that's not defined by intrusive thoughts, worries, or self-doubt, and I'm here to help you reclaim it.

I enjoy building therapeutic relationships and promoting positive changes in people's lives. My clients often struggle with depression, anxiety, OCD, phobias, relationship issues, sleep problems, self esteem and confidence. I am especially interested in working with gay identified men and people struggling with phobias or OCD, but love working with all sorts of folks and issues. Working collaboratively with clients, I try to help them find alternative ways of dealing with life's challenges. I believe therapy helps people become more authentic and well balanced version of themselves and not be controlled by anxiety or depression.

I specialize in the treatment of OCD, hoarding disorder, and all other anxiety-related disorders: social anxiety, phobias, panic disorder, PTSD, generalized anxiety, tics, and body-focused repetitive behaviors (e.g., nail-biting). As part of my practice, the primary treatment for these conditions is exposure and response prevention therapy, or ERP. What maybe differentiates my practice from others whose principal therapeutic modality is ERP is that I am able to accept a wide variety of insurances. Additionally, I am one of very few clinicians in the state of Minnesota who specializes in the treatment of hoarding disorder.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
