Focusing on strengths and incorporating elements of CBT, mindfulness, and EMDR, I work with youth, adults, and families to overcome challenges associated with conflict, trauma,
grief
/
loss
, anxiety, depression, and life transitions.
Life can feel overwhelming when you're trapped in negative emotions. Your nervous system is on overdrive. You're exhausted, but unhelpful thoughts keep you from feeling rested. You're irritable. You feel like something is wrong with you. Even minor inconveniences feel like they have the power to derail your whole day. Your relationships suffer - at work, at school, at home, and with yourself. These negative emotions can feel like they've swallowed you whole; you yearn to feel calm, light, and free so you can enjoy your life, your relationships, and your own company again.

Things that have happened to us don't always feel like they're "over" ; past events may feel like they still impact or even control our lives. You feel anxious, overwhelmed, depressed, scared to do the things you want to do, stuck, or frustrated with your relationships. You're not living the kind of life you want to live, and you don't feel like your best self. Maybe you had some significant trauma in your life, or experienced abuse, or weren't nurtured by your family in the way you needed, or feel rejected by your family or your faith community. Or maybe you're grieving the
loss
of a dream, a person, or a relationship.

I provide individual therapy for adolescents and adults who are experiencing the following: anxiety, depression, life stressors and transitions,
grief
and
loss
, trauma, and identity concerns.
I have firsthand experience with how nerve-wracking it can be to begin therapy, whether it is for the first time or with a new therapist. I prioritize creating a safe and welcoming environment for clients. I believe that the depth of healing that is possible through therapy makes it a risk worth taking, but the approach and temperament of the therapist is undeniably important. That is why I strive to provide each client with the individualized support they need to make the changes they want to make in their life. With the proper support and resources, I believe that every person can seek the healing they desire.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
