I provide education, safety, and sensitivity so that we can explore your values, obstacles, sexuality,
family
dynamics, and commitment to making meaningful changes in your life or relationship.
I am a seasoned psychotherapist and owner of Valued Living Therapy, and I provide both individual & couples therapy. Together, we will examine what you'd like to change & accept about aspects of yourself, a relationship, and/or a difficult situation. In therapy, you will have the opportunity to learn how to cultivate distress tolerance, self-awareness, connectedness, and belonging in order for you or your relationship to thrive. I hold the perspective that identifying desired meaningful outcomes, a willingness to commit to intentionality, and living each day according to what we intrinsically value is our most important work.

I also have extensive experience working with kids and young adults with special needs and their
family
support system.
Life is hard. We live in a complex world that can be stressful and overwhelming. Most of us were never taught the tools to manage emotional and mental challenges, which can lead to anxiety and depression. The good news is that you are not alone! Let me help you uncover what’s keeping you from living your best life. I have the privilege of working with kids, teens and families in a variety of settings. I enjoy working with kids and young adults who have difficulty managing relationships, school performance decline, increased fighting with parents/siblings, anxiety & depression.

In addition to a Masters in Marriage and
Family Therapy
, I have a Masters in Theology.
I offer therapy to individuals, couples and families who want a welcoming, safe place to process what is happening within or among them. From clients, I learn how they see the world, how they understand themselves, what patterns create their interactions, and where they want to go from here. Clients are empowered to determine their goals and create new perspectives on themselves and the world around them. The hope is that, during sessions, clients will gain new skills and thought patterns for the benefit of the relationships that give their lives meaning.

I also work to heal relational trauma wounds stemming from dysfunctional
family
systems.
If you are in a marriage or relationship where you think it would be easier to "go it alone" or you feel like you are "not enough" for your partner or that you just "don't communicate," than I can help. I will work with that part of you that does not want to change. If you are willing I believe that I can help you and your partner/spouse figure out how you get stuck and how you can get back to the relationship you once had and better! I also focus on healing developmental trauma and other traumatic events in their lives.

All parts are welcome, period. I use an Internal
Family
Systems (IFS) lens with a body-centered, experiential and practical approach. Nonjudgmental, empathic and fiercely compassionate, I extend a radical welcome to any part that shows up. I am genuinely curious and mindful and hold a gentle persistence in encouraging change. I trust that we have smart bodies and that with collaborative observation and curiosity, we can learn from their wisdom and gain valuable insights for healing. I work with clients as equals to best support desired individual and relational goals.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
