I enjoy working with people that are motivated and active in therapy. Whether the issue is at work, in a
relationship
, or how you think or feel about things, we can move through it with honesty, laughter, and grace. I also enjoy working with
couples
because a lot of change can come from partners working through issues together. Relationships are really hard so helping people navigate through the rough patches, while reinforcing the good, is especially rewarding. I also like working with teens, because we can intervene early. I think we can help teens avoid unnecessary pain later in life, if we teach them skills now.

I enjoy using art therapy, as well as other creative interventions, and believe in meeting people where they are to build a supportive therapeutic
relationship
.
There are so many times in our lives when we are asked to adapt. Whether it's transitioning to a new school or job, changing relationships, parenting through different stresses and stages, managing Anxiety or Depression so that you can best enjoy your life, or just figuring out who you are and how you want to be in this world. Participating in therapy almost always means change, and I enjoy supporting people as they explore this change, learn new strategies, and work to grow.

"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." Ralph Waldo Emerson. Many people that pursue psychotherapy do so because they feel stuck. The goal of therapy is the clarification of what we actually think and feel toward the goal of getting unstuck, so that our lives can move on. Life presents challenges. If this is where you are, you're probably right on track. I also have extensive experience in addictive behaviors that prevent us from moving forward. (LIVE VIDEO OPTION AVAILABLE. I enjoy working with children, adults and families who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or parenting issues. I also work with
couples
who are struggling with communication, infidelity or other
relationship
conflict. My clients described me as supportive, and encouraging. I use cognitive behavioral therapy methods as well as insight oriented therapy to help clients develop and grow. I like to use the metaphor of a lotus flower to describe life's path. The flower is deeply rooted in the bottom of the rivers and ponds where it survives.

Therapy is different for everyone. I believe one of the most important aspects of successful work in therapy comes from the strength of the client/therapist
relationship
. The process of solving emotional and relational problems can be both intimidating, and very rewarding. I work to help individuals and
couples
discover their strengths and build on them. The process of change will be unique to each person, and I am honored to be on it with you.

Whether it’s issues from your past, lack of clear direction in life, grief & loss,
relationship
struggles, or the “dark-side” of being gifted and talented, David is certainly one to get right into the thick of it with you and walk along side until you have arrived where you want to be.
Can you describe a therapist as “kick-a$s”? I’m not even sure. If you can, that’s how we’d describe him. He’s smart, funny, and really digs in. If you got something you need figured out, he’s definitely someone you want on your team. David genuinely wants you to be happy, and will do what he can to make sure you are. He thrives on understanding. Thus, clients that work with him will certainly be understood for who they are, what they need, and what is holding them back.

I believe the therapeutic
relationship
is the most important part of therapy.
Life is hard and often not fair at times. We seek therapy to feel heard, validated and find ways to move through our pain. I work with a broad range of individuals, couple's and families. My passion is helping those with relational issues, developmental trauma, substance use as well as eating disorders. I will work with individuals (13+). I love working with transplants as I understand the complexities of moving to another part of the country and not knowing the culture. My goal is to help you find yourself, that internal voice that tells you, "you are worthy, you are enough."

I have 35 years of experience helping people find a way to live a richer and more satisfying life. Therapy is about empowering individuals and coming face-to-face with adversities. Clients are helped to explore past experiences that impact current emotions and behaviors. In order to change you need to resolve internal conflicts that lead to emotional distress, unwanted behaviors and physical symptoms. I help to create a safe place for you to be able to talk about the meaning of your feelings and thoughts thus gaining greater knowledge of self.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
