My specialties include anxiety, depression, ADHD,
addiction
, and spiritual struggles.
Positive mental health is a right for all, critical to managing our day-to-day life, and necessary to realize one's full potential and authentic self. Although life can saddle us with extreme stress, counseling gives us the tools and support to understand the root of that stress and develop through it. Counseling promotes and emphasizes wellness, empowerment, and growth. It's a powerful way to explore and optimize our holistic wellbeing. Contacting a professional for therapy can feel intimidating. However, seeking counseling early on can help deescalate issues and equip clients with tools to manage and prevent future issues.

I have participated in various training and continuing education programs to enhance my clinical capabilities regarding Gambling Disorder and believe I have developed an effective and eclectic approach to the treatment of
addiction
.
As a licensed addictions counselor and mental health practitioner with Club Recovery I understand very well the nature of Gambling Disorder and see myself in the people I serve. I have come to develop my perspective on treatment from my own journey in recovery. My goal is to help patients with true insight of Gambling Disorder, how it has effected them and their families, and develop an understanding of this still very misunderstood aspect of the disease of
addiction
. My gambling treatment program utilizes a cognitive-behavioral model that focuses on raising awareness of one’s emotions, thoughts and behaviors related to gambling.

I work with individuals who have experienced trauma during childhood or as adults. Trauma alters our psychophysiology (the way in which the body and mind interact) leading to a variety of mental health disorders including anxiety, depression,
addiction
and some personality disorders. My main approach to treatment is helping clients understand and manage their autonomic nervous system. When clients learn how to co-regulate and self-regulate, they can manage their symptoms, emotions, thoughts and behaviors more effectively. They also feel safer in their bodies which improves their relationships and sense of self.

My specialties include
Addiction
, Anxiety, Depression, and OCD.
I am accepting new clients, in-person only. Everyone has an innate capacity to shape their lives to align with their personal meaning and values. However, life events,
addiction
, and mental health can knock us off our path and force us to seek comfort in ways that aren't sustainable long-term. Rather than demonize these initial coping methods, I seek to assist clients in discovering new, or old, ways of coping and thriving. Life is challenging, and therapy is not always easy, but change is very real.

My areas of specialty include Dual Diagnosis,
Addiction
, Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Low Self-Esteem, and difficulty adjusting to significant life changes.
I believe that before a client can truly start to improve their mental health it's important to make sure certain barriers are removed and their basic needs are met. Life events,
addiction
and mental health, often pull us away from who we want to be. I understand how maladaptive coping, family discord, community violence, barriers to care, and other environmental and developmental stressors affect one’s physical and mental health. I utilize a person-centered approach while striving towards a welcoming, and non-judgmental environment.

I enjoy working with people of all ages and backgrounds and have experience working with individuals, couples, and groups in treatment centers and outpatient clinics. I collaborate with my clients, providing person-centered, evidence-based treatment for mental health and
substance
use disorders. Often, life experiences lead us to believe that we are incapable, flawed, or unworthy. While we cannot change what has happened in the past, we can create new meaning from our experiences. We can direct our path forward, utilizing our strengths, embracing who we want to be, and living a fulfilling life that reflects our values.

Addiction Therapists
What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.
How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.
How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.
How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason, “interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
