Managing mental and behavioral health can be difficult. Everyone deserves to be heard and understand how behaviors impact overall health and well being. Too often families are left with questions once a diagnosis of a mental or behavioral health condition is given. What is needed is someone who can help explain things, provide medications and recommend or order treatments, or refer to the proper supports. Some one who understands the struggles and with whom you can talk over the most difficult things.

Making the decision to begin therapy can be difficult, and is a brave step in taking care of your own wants and needs in life. I deeply value the various aspects that make up the journeys of others, as we all have our own unique stories. Often through reflection, when we allow ourselves to slow down and notice what we are experiencing in the moment, true self discovery and capacity from within can be cultivated. With compassion and openness I walk beside my clients as they work toward relief and resolution.

Helping people who feel stuck get unstuck is my passion. Finding balance and addressing feeling disconnected or overwhelmed. Offering enthusiastic support and new perspectives on the underlying reasons a person or couple is struggling and then how to make real change. We will build awareness and incorporate new skills to address whatever feels hard right now. And working towards being more content. Often, this includes helping people learn how to better identify and communicate their needs and hopes and desires.

Over the course of over twenty years as a practicing psychologist, my compassion for the challenges and complexities of life has deepened, and I appreciate the fears associated with change. My approach to therapy emphasizes meeting people where they are at and creating a collaborative treatment plan. Alongside an orientation of optimism and resilience, I stress new-skill development and the incorporation of personal strengths.

This may mean exploring simple questions that get to the core of an issue or examining the story that guides your life. It may involve facing your fears, changing unhelpful habits, or engaging your creativity. In the process, you may wrestle with difficult feelings, laugh yourself silly, or explore new ways of being. You and I will tailor our approach to your current needs so you can find the insights you need, make the changes you want, and experience the healing you deserve.

Welcome! You found your way here. Perhaps chronic patterns of feeling depressed, anxious, or hopeless have prevented you from reaching life goals. Perhaps emotions and memories of past events intrude your thoughts, and you're wondering if you can ever reach the "before" time again. Starting therapy is often a decision people make when what they’ve tried on their own no longer feels sufficient.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
