I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and EMDR in my practice, and will integrate other modalities as appropriate.
Making the decision to begin therapy can be difficult, and is a brave step in taking care of your own wants and needs in life. I deeply value the various aspects that make up the journeys of others, as we all have our own unique stories. Often through reflection, when we allow ourselves to slow down and notice what we are experiencing in the moment, true self discovery and capacity from within can be cultivated. With compassion and openness I walk beside my clients as they work toward relief and resolution.

I integrate evidence-based therapies, including EMDR, with an understanding of whole-person healing.
There comes a point when many women become exhausted—not simply from anxiety, trauma, or difficult relationships—but from carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders while quietly wondering, "How did I get here?" If that resonates with you, please know you are not alone. I work primarily with Christian women who are seeking thoughtful, evidence-based counseling and desire to integrate their faith into the healing process. Many of the women I work with are navigating trauma, anxiety, eating disorders, body image concerns, perfectionism, stress, grief, relationship challenges, or questions of identity and purpose.

“..Only when it is dark enough can you see the stars” -Martin Luther King, Jr. It may be a dark time in your life or you may be unable to see your own goodness buried deep inside. Possibly you just want to explore what makes you happy and alive. There are so many reasons to seek out counseling and it is because of those reasons I became a therapist. I'm naturally curious about human nature. That, along with my knowledge of mind and body, neuroscience of the brain, and over 20 years of therapy experience, I can help you find the answers you are searching for.

I am an EMDR Certified Clinician, trained Psychological First Aid Responder, have specialized and advanced training in reproductive mental health and pregnancy loss and Critical Incident Stress Debriefing and completed an online certificate program through Rush University Medical Center on foundational competencies in older adult mental health.
My experience working with a diverse population of families, couples and individuals of all ages has led me to adopt and practice with a relational, client-centered and strengths-based approach. This follows my observations that individuals have internalized resources, wisdom and capacity for resilience that are often unrecognized or repressed. Strengthening those parts of the self provide the most enduring and transformative healing experiences. I also believe a critical component of my work with clients is helping them understand the brain/body connection, and how to utilize this understanding to manage symptoms and responses.

EMDR Therapy and parts work are foundational to my practice.
Hi there! My name is Sarah and I am a fellow traveler, story teller and story listener. I believe the stories we are drawn to intimately reflect who we are and have the ability to guide us towards our own healing. I believe the experiences we have as children are imprinted on us and mold us into what we believe about ourselves in the present: the joyful, the hurtful, and the confusing. It’s our journey to examine those experiences and identities, integrate some, and let go of the rest.
It’s not just enough to say, “it’s not my fault”, but to feel your whole body relax and know in your bones, “it’s not my fault.”

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
