I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and pull from CBT, relational, ACT , person-centered, feminist and humanistic approaches.
Same week appointments available! I enjoy working with college students and young adults seeking to learn more about themselves, including the patterns that may have stopped working for them. I believe each person is doing the best they can with what they have, and enjoy working with individuals who strive to learn how to best use their strengths effectively to reach their goals. Few things feel more honorable than sitting with those who are open to challenge themselves, while honoring their needs, wants and goals. I enjoy working with those with the desire to continue growing through every chapter of life.

The techniques I use are mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) , ACT and motivational interviewing.
My area of expertise is in recovery from substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health issues. I believe that substance use is a biopsychosocial phenomenon. Substance use roots are in our biology, in our mind processes and in our relationships with others. My clients are the experts on themselves and I feel that on a journey together, using my clinical expertise, we can better align your behaviors with your values.

This has been a particularly stressful time for a lot of us, and carving out space to focus on you is a beautiful act of self-care.
If you're feeling burned out, stressed, or overwhelmed, I'm glad you're here. Maybe you're struggling with anxiety, feelings of low self-worth, or with relationships (family, friends, or significant others). Burnout and stress can show up in dissatisfaction with our body image or a difficult relationship with food. Maybe you're feeling stuck or unhappy with your current job. While it is normal and natural to experience discomfort, I am confident we can work together to help you feel more at ease more of the time and to connect your life with your values.

Relationships require continued trust, communication, and deep awareness of each other’s worlds. I work with couples, including polyamorous and non-monogamous, to build connection, trust, and intimacy in their relationships. I also help partners learn to manage conflict more effectively. I particularly love helping partners find ways to communicate about difficult and sensitive issues. This is especially important when partners struggle to connect around sexual wants and needs. These conversations need an atmosphere of trust, acceptance , and non-judgment, as partners learn to validate and respond to each other's sexual feelings.

I weave in strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT ), and when appropriate EMDR to foster a growth mindset and healthy skills to manage difficult emotions.
Does your child or teen worry excessively, or maybe not enough? Seem down, withdrawn, on their screen too much? Maybe they have ADHD and are trying to figure out how to manage it or are struggling to navigate challenging social dynamics. Perhaps your child has asked to talk to someone, and you want to support them. No matter the reason you are searching, finding a therapist who fits your child and family is important.

The therapy process is personal in nature, therefore, I believe that it is very important for anyone who is seeking therapy find the right therapist for them. In my practice I rely on several theoretical approaches such as: interpersonal psychology, psychodynamics, cognitive-behavioral, and family systems. My eclectic approach develops a comprehensive and personal approach built on my premise: how we feel, think, and act is because of genetics, upbringing, and life experiences.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

Is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy evidence-based?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is one of many approaches within the field of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is an evidence-based treatment framework that has been shown to be effective in treating many mental health conditions including depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and OCD.

What is the difference between Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

Despite being part of the CBT family of therapies, ACT differs from other approaches within this field in several important ways: First, it emphasizes acceptance over change; second, it focuses on present moment experiences rather than past experiences or future events; third it focuses on what clients can do rather than what they cannot do; and fourth it emphasizes values rather than symptoms as targets for change.

What credentials will a certified Acceptance and Commitment therapist have?

A certified Acceptance and Commitment therapist in Chanhassen will have completed specialized training in this approach at a university accredited by The Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT).

How long does ACT typically take?

ACT is a relatively short-term therapy that focuses on helping you accept the things you can't change and commit to the things you can. It typically takes about eight weeks of weekly sessions with a therapist to complete the entire process. You may need to see your therapist weekly or biweekly, depending on the circumstances surrounding your situation.
