I find it rewarding beyond words to be allowed to share in my patient's unique life experiences and witness their growth and transformation. It is an honor to be trusted with another person's inner world and to be able to build a therapeutic relationship that helps them recover from whatever difficulties that they are experiencing. I provide a therapeutic space in a comfortable, home-like atmosphere that deviates from the "going to the local mental health center" experience.

I work with high-performing adults including healthcare professionals, academic faculty, leaders, and those in demanding roles who are navigating anxiety, burnout, trauma, or persistent patterns that no longer respond to effort alone. Many of my clients are used to functioning at a high level, yet find themselves feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected. Therapy becomes a space to step out of constant output and into a more sustainable, aligned way of living and working.

My name is Michael and I'm a psychotherapist based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. You're probably visiting my page because something isn’t working in your life and you are considering making a change. I work with individual clients that are 18+ who desire their lives to be different. I consider myself to be a generalist, but I do specialize in men’s issues, life transitions, grieving fathers, mood and trauma disorders, relationship distress, and other medical providers seeking support. I see a lot of people who have some ambivalence to meeting with a therapist, but have been “encouraged” by their partners to seek help.

Hi, I’m Bridget! I’m a therapist who believes that growth doesn’t always have to look perfect. Sometimes it looks like a messy middle chapter, a plot twist, or learning how to take off the “I-have-it-all-together” mask. My goal is to help you reconnect with your sense of self, find confidence in your voice, and navigate life’s chaos with more calm and clarity (and maybe a little humor, too). I work with college students and young women who feel stuck in anxiety, perfectionism, relationship patterns, burnout, or ADHD overwhelm.

Asking for help takes courage. We all face challenges in life – perhaps difficulties with depression or anxiety, relationship problems, physical health, trauma, finances, etc. More broadly, sometimes we feel alone and struggle with figuring out our meaning and purpose in life. You don’t have to walk through difficult times alone, and I would be honored to offer support in your journey. I’ve been a licensed clinical psychologist for over 25 years, and have had the privilege of serving individuals and couples in diverse settings. I approach therapy in a collaborative and empowering manner, and help clients draw upon their strengths.

I love helping clients navigate anxiety, self-esteem challenges, or major life transitions like starting college, changing careers, or ending relationships. I've also worked with those in helping professions who may feel burnt out or struggle to prioritize themselves. Working with individuals who are open to learning assertiveness and making meaningful changes is my jam. My style is warm, honest, and humorous. I’ll support you while also gently challenging patterns that keep you stuck. If you want a therapist who will listen, laugh with you, and call you out (kindly!) when needed, we’ll get along great!

I specialize in helping couples, families, and other kinds of relationships repair after ruptures, find harmony, and figure out how to make sustainable, enjoyable changes in their lives. I especially enjoy working with individuals, couples, and family dynamics (such as parent-adult children and adult sibling relationships). I help folks get unstuck by identifying unhelpful patterns, exploring stuckness, and helping people learn new ways of connecting to one another.

Drawing on ACT, CBT, ERP, EFT, and clinical hypnosis when it fits, you can build a life guided more by what matters to you than by fear.
You may look capable on the outside while privately carrying more than anyone can see, racing thoughts, sleepless nights, unwanted urges, shame, or quiet pain. If insomnia, OCD, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, depression, relationship stress, or habits like hair pulling and skin picking have left you overwhelmed, exhausted, and stuck, and even insight has not been enough to change the pattern, you are not alone. Therapy can help you find steadier ground, understand yourself more clearly, and move toward a life of greater clarity, freedom, meaning, connection, and joy.

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
