Reaching out to a therapist is a bold move. It takes courage to begin the process of self exploration and discovery, and it takes a safe place to do that important work. I am committed to providing that safe space for my clients. I believe that the relationship between a therapist and client is a unique and healing one. It is two minds coming together to explore the ways in which current life stresses intersect with painful past experiences to create suffering. When a client feels respected and seen, they are able to grieve their past hurts and find new paths for coping.

I absolutely love working with individuals from all walks of life. I have a passion for working with people who have experienced traumatic events, chronic childhood trauma, adoption, BIPOC related concerns, grief and loss, and people who are in the never ending "middle' of parenthood. I additionally love working with LGTBQ+, woman/female identifying related concerns, life transitions, and perfectionism. I believe people can heal neglected parts of their stories by finding common themes and narratives that have been fragmented along the way in order to create a more holistic and "at peace" version of self.

I am grateful for the gift of working with each of my clients as they navigate life's path. I work to provide a supportive and open place to connect with individuals and to allow space for deeper work, particularly around trauma, anxiety, depression, identity work, and life transitions. Bringing my authentic self to session is also always a priority. Work-wise, I'm a social worker and founded Virta Therapy Collective after working in clinical leadership at a trauma center, in an outpatient practice, at a domestic violence shelter, as a clinical director in a nature based therapeutic program, and in community mental health.

In my time working with folx in different communities, I have learned YOU are the best narrator of YOUR story. I am the listener, letting you bring me where you need me. Trauma often makes us feel like pieces of that story are missing. As the listener, I want to help piece that story back together with you. I am queer, neurodivergent, a partner, and a friend. Each of these identities affects how I interact with the world and I like to address how our identities play a role in every part of life. I am blunt, compassionate and goofy. What drives me is helping clients heal from trauma to live their best, most authentic lives.

I specialize in working with helping professionals. It’s important to fill your own cup before pouring it out into the cups of others. I am acutely aware of the nuanced difficulties ingrained into our helping roles: burnout, imposter syndrome, vicarious trauma, boundary struggles, perfectionism, a drift towards isolation at the end of a day, the week, or over longer periods, etc. A challenge inherent to the helping professions is that is our work is ongoing. Secondary trauma always has the potential to creep into our personal lives, or burst through our carefully constructed guardrails.

Dissociative Disorders (DID) Therapists
How does therapy for dissociative disorders work?
Dissociation may be triggered by stress or other upsetting circumstances, and therapy can address the traumatic events at the core of an individual’s dissociation. Understanding why a person may dissociate can help the therapist and the individual come up with alternative methods of coping. A person with a dissociative disorder may get stuck on negative thinking, for example, and treatment like Cognitive behavioral therapy is a gold standard for breaking such thinking. And dialectical behavior therapy, for example, can help a person manage their anguish through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for dissociative disorders?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, schema therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful memories and past traumas. These therapies work to integrate an individual's different identities into one person.
Are there specific medications for dissociation?
There are no specific medications prescribed for dissociative disorders. However, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and/or panic often co-occur in dissociative disorders. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for any accompanying symptom—which may include antipsychotics like aripiprazole, antidepressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or anti-anxiety drugs like benzodiazepines.
How often and how long are therapy sessions?
Like any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. There are still other patients, especially those who have co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, who may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months.
