Sleep or Insomnia Therapists in Bloomington, MN
Accepting new clients for telehealth (online or phone therapy) with focus on stress, anxiety and sleep issues.
Many of us struggle with anxiety, stress, and trouble sleeping. We can find ourselves facing difficult life changes and transitions, experiencing difficult relationships, work problems, or issues related to aging and loss. It seems easy these days to feel anxious, discouraged and uncertain about the future. If you are experiencing any of the above concerns, therapy could help. Effective therapy can equip clients with the skills, self-confidence and resilience they can apply effectively to their present situation and also in the future when issues arise.

Life often brings us moments where we feel ready for a change —where the landscape of our experiences no longer reflects where we want to be. With 15 years of experience as a therapist, having multiple evidence-based trainings, and who is constantly learning, I work to provide care through that change. I work from a consent-based approach, helping to identify what occurs in the brain and nervous system that is impacting you in your life, so that you can take the next steps forward to where you want to go.

As a mental health therapist, I believe that it is important to meet my clients where they are. Building trust with my clients in therapy is very important to me so that I can continue to provide them with a safe, non-judgmental space to talk about their struggles and work towards setting goals. I like to incorporate humor and laughter in combination with working through serious conversations with clients.

I also offer structured, evidence-based treatment for sleep problems using CBT-I, as well as Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) for trauma and related challenges.
Many people come to therapy feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward. Amid the abundance of information and perspectives on mental health, it can be challenging to sift through what fits your unique situation and values. Together, we identify what matters most to you, explore patterns that drive your life, and craft practical, values-aligned strategies for change. Our experiences shape us, but they don’t have to limit our ability to adapt and lead fulfilling lives. My approach is steady, collaborative, and grounded in insight and action, offering a space where each client can feel understood and supported.

Why can't I sleep?
Sitting in a room with someone who understands the complex nature of chemical use can be incredibly comforting. Laughing at the crazy things that have happened, sitting with the sadness around your losses, and working toward a place of hope can be life changing.

My ideal clients are teens, college students, and young adults who are trying to make sense of life’s chaos — figuring out who they are, what they want, and how to quiet the constant noise of everything. Many of the people I work with feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in their heads. Some are navigating ADHD or other forms of neurodiversity that make “adulting” or managing relationships feel extra tricky. Others are balancing a million things — school, work, friends, dating — and just want to feel more grounded and confident in themselves. I do have current openings in the upcoming Fall!

My motivation for becoming a clinical social work came about from my past experiences growing up. During my adolescent years I both witnessed and experienced families in crisis. This had a profound effect on me and after a process I have come to realize that my passion lies in helping people who are less advantaged. By listening, understanding, helping, and inspiring hope we can make differences in people's life.

I am passionate about helping people see the best in themselves, even during the most challenging circumstances. Sometimes this includes processing what is going on around you, sometimes this means exploring aspects of your past that have led to patterns of behavior, and sometimes this means making sense of a hectic society that can seem a little senseless. I am especially keen to work with clients who want to explore aspects of their own identity, whether it be where they came from, their family, their racial or ethnic background, their sexual orientation or gender, and/or diverse relationships.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
