It's time. Time to make yourself a priority. Time to discover your needs. Time to feel better. Life can get complicated and messy sometimes and if you put others' needs before your own you may get lost. You deserve to be listened to and to feel understood.

I have been in the counseling and psychology field for the past 20+ years. I know that it is difficult to ask for help. However, people sometimes need additional support beyond their family and friends. I work with, adults and adolescents that experience low self-esteem, relationship problems, depression, anxiety, grief/loss, addiction, trauma, and have trouble regulating their emotions. If you are a parent looking for services for your child, I am a registered play therapist and I will work with your child to resolve fears, worries, sadness, and build healthy esteem and assist you in providing on-going support to your child.

I enjoy working with clients who want to develop a safe and comfortable space to explore their issues and concerns on a deep level. Shame can be a barrier to seeking help, and not everyone has had positive experiences in the mental health field. However, sometimes we also do need our worldview and patterns to be challenged for positive change to occur. I aim to create a trusting and collaborative therapeutic experience with clients who are open to learning new perspectives and tools, trusting the process, and have the ability to advocate for themselves about what they need from me as their therapist.

My therapeutic process is client-centered, individual and relational. I remain committed, walking alongside you, meeting you wherever is most appropriate and helpful. Sometimes this may take a session to uncover. However, I do not believe there has to be a “problem” to attend therapy. I stand firm in the belief that there is always room for growth if there is a desire to cultivate a positive change, whatever that may be. My goal is not to keep you in therapy. If you prefer intensive sessions, that last a little longer in time, allow for confidentiality beyond limits of insurance, and prefer quick resolution, we may be a good match.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
