It is a deep human desire to be seen, heard, loved and known. I am honored and humbled by my clients inviting me into their lives to witness their pain, struggles and perseverance. I am with my clients to empower and challenge them in their growth, healing and beauty. No matter the past or path that got them into the counseling room with me, my main focus is to partner with them to build a better future. Not a future to just feel better or make it to the next day or hope to have better relationship or to get over the past; but beyond. We work together as a team to flourish as a child of God, this side of Heaven.

Life can be challenging and stressful. Often our busy life prevents us from caring for ourselves. Psychotherapy is a space to address your needs and concerns and build self-harmony. In a safe and trusting relationship, we will identify strengths and unearth resiliency while working on your struggles. In therapy, I tailor my therapeutic approach to your needs and pay attention to your context (environment, spirituality, culture, and multiple identities).

I offer therapy adapted to the needs of the client. If brief, problem-focused work is needed, I offer it. For clients seeking a fuller understanding of themselves and their personality styles, I provide open-ended, insight-based therapy. Because I recognize each person as a whole, complex individual, I try to see each person and each set of difficulties in context. Proper resolution of problems often requires attention to the complexity--the emotional, physical, cognitive, spiritual, and interpersonal dimensions --of the client's experience. Prevention of future difficulties also ranks high in the priorites of my therapeutic work.

As a therapist, I believe that authenticity and the therapeutic relationship are invaluable. I believe that therapy will not work if there is not a strong therapeutic alliance. I tend to be a laid back, compassionate clinician who values humor in session, but I am also not afraid to challenge you and be direct. I believe each individual is unique, therefore I do not believe there is one set way to do therapy. I value meeting individuals where they are at and learning about their strengths to help them in session. I work with adults ages 18+.

My approach to therapy is relationship based, flexible and eclectic. When you come into session, you can expect unconditional care, respect for your unique story and a touch of humor. You are the expert on your experience. You are the hero of your journey. Therapy can provide a safe space for you to get grounded, feel your feelings, learn, strategize and let go of what is no longer serving you.

It is my honor and privilege as a therapist to assist folks in their journey to optimal living. I believe it's my duty to walk along side as you, the client, discover and examine issues and complexities in your life. We will work together to resolve these issues and implement positive change. I do not believe in a one size fits all therapy approach. I believe the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in a successful treatment.

I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults and use a variety of techniques to meet my client’s needs. I have a particular interest in working with new parents and individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community. I believe every person has a variety of identities that influence how we perceive and interact with the world. These identities tell the story of our lives and should be celebrated. I also believe that you are the expert of your life and it is my job to create a safe and supportive environment for you to express your needs, thoughts, and feelings.

How can I find a therapist in Anoka County?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
