I prefer to take a practical approach to my work and after an initial consultation, I gather a thorough history. I involve patients in the development of a treatment plan in which together, we identify the issues to be addressed, therapeutic goals, and strategies that might be helpful. The therapeutic process can then begin and function within this framework. As a collaborative effort, I find therapy is most successful when the therapist and patient participate equally. My style is to be very interactive and involved, unlike the image that most people have of psychotherapists who simply sit back and listen.
