I believe I am able to help clients because, I learned how to talk less and listen more. No one in my family was a therapist. My father thought I should become a physician or accountant; learn a 'real' skill. I went through college with no idea of what I wanted to become and when I finished close to 3 years of schooling, noticed I had more units in psychology than any other subject. It wasn't intentional but the classes I took in personality, family systems, child development and abnormal behavior all made sense to me. I entered San Francisco State intending on becoming a journalist or a writer.
I never gave up on my love for writing and wrote a weekly column for the Riverside Press-Enterprise that focused on helping individuals and families. Like the cliche goes, one day my phone rang and it changed my life. It was a judge from the Family Law Court who invited me to lunch and asked if I would consider doing therapy for divorcing couples?
I would like anyone considering having therapy (with the exception of child custody evaluations which are in person) to understand I am strictly virtual.
