I hold two fundamental beliefs about all humans; firstly, I believe every individual is infinitely unique. Secondly, I think every person can grow and be better than they are today. I believe my job is to help you find the tools and resources you need to continue growing. My favorite aspect of therapy is that it can be tailored to individuals' authentic thoughts, feelings, experiences, needs, or desires.

As a clinical social worker/registered play therapist, I work with children ages 3-9 and their families. I primarily use Child Centered Play Therapy and I am also trained in Theraplay, SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) and Trauma-Focused CBT. I have special interest and experience working with adolescents and adults surrounding perinatal mental health, depression, anxiety, relationships, and life transitions, as well as trauma and PTSD related to issues of race, and community violence.

Life transitions can be hard. I help clients identify inner strengths and values so that they can experience growth after crisis, loss, or medical illness. My approach to therapy is grounded in helping clients develop confidence in managing stressors and communicating effectively in their relationships. Clients with depression or anxiety related to medical illness will gain tools to manage pain and health anxiety. Clients who are experiencing relationship stress will learn new healthy relationship patterns. While my passion is helping people find the joy in life, I am also dedicated to improving the counseling profession. As a past President of both the American Counseling Association of Missouri and the Missouri Mental Health Counselors Association, I have worked to help professional counselors and the field of counseling in the state of Missouri. I extend this focus of helping the profession to teaching and supervising individuals who are pursuing professional counseling as a career.

I am a bilingual therapist who is passionate and experienced in working with children, adolescents, and adults, including LGBTQIA+ teens and adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, transitional issues, relationship/separation, and other mental health concerns. I am also trained in EMDR to treat clients who have experienced trauma. Hi! My name is Amber Baumgarden. I'm a private practice EMDR Therapist and LMSW who is here to provide a person-centered approach to counseling and therapy for individuals, couples, and families. Some of my focuses are supporting Polyamory people, LGBTQIA+ members, Transgender and gender questioning people, members of the kink community, and people practicing other forms of non-monogamy including swinging.
