In my work with clients, I strive to live by Irvin Yalom’s counsel to “create a new therapy for each patient.” From a theoretical foundation of attachment, neuroscience and evolutionary psychology, and with an eye to the client's unique environment, circumstances, strengths and lived experiences, I collaborate with clients to understand and map a course of treatment. I utilize the frameworks of psychodynamic theory, narrative therapy, Internal Family Systems, mindfulness and yoga, and existential psychology throughout the course of therapy as relevant.
As a yoga instructor of 15 years, I have witnessed the power of movement and meditation as a way to aid individuals in regulating their nervous systems, detangle from unhelpful patterns and to learn to better tolerate difficult times and emotions. I see somatic and meditation practices as valuable adjuncts to talk therapy when aligned to the clients needs.
My orientation to therapy is predicated on the therapeutic relationship and the development of an authentic and caring connection. From this foundation of trust and alliance we can be curious together about the presenting concern and innovative in our approaches to facilitating change.
