Psychotherapy addresses the pain of feeling misunderstood and alone. My approach is to strive to help you feel heard and understood. I listen carefully, as the narratives you share may communicate both obvious and deeper meanings. I look for patterns in your life and offer insights I encourage you to refine, so that together we can make sense of your experiences. I attend to dynamics in your relationships to help you stop recreating problems from your past in the present. You need to feel safe enough to take risks in treatment, so I work to create a consistent and trustworthy environment.
I have experience in college counseling, inpatient medical, outpatient hospital, veteran affairs, and psychoanalytic institute settings. I have worked with issues including concerns of identity development, relationship issues, sexual orientation, life transitions, career concerns, sexual abuse, drug use, grief and loss, complex trauma, posttraumatic stress, and adjustment to medical illness.
My therapeutic style is grounded in relational psychoanalytic and person-centered approaches. I tailor my approach to foster both symptom relief and substantive change. In working together, I seek to enable you to access your innate capacities for self-healing, and to help you become more fully who you are.
