I have extensive experience working with transgender and LGBQ+ communities and feel empowered when people of color, immigrants, refugees, people with disabilities, people of all sizes, and others marginalized by the mainstream take up space in nature.
Whether you’re a nature lover or nature avoider, love to move your body or can’t stand to break a sweat, this therapy is for you. With today’s stressors, we all need nature more than ever. Take your therapy outdoors and gain the benefits of moving your eyes off the screen, engaging your senses, and really feeling your body in nature...all while addressing your personal goals.

Much of my work is centered around gender – from issues surrounding identity exploration, to social/medical transition, to gender dysphoria , to gender-identity-related interpersonal challenges. Some of my favorite work is in helping to bridge the communication gaps between teens and their families after a teen has come out as trans/gender nonconforming! I also have experience with depression, anxiety, substance use, military families, sexuality and sexual health, emetophobia (phobia of vomit), phase-of-life challenges, uncertainty/anxiety about the future, kink/BDSM, and partner conflict/miscommunication.

I have expertise in working with individuals who are transgender and gender-expansive, as well as the greater LGBTQIA2S+ community.
Every person needs a secure space where they can become their most authentic selves. I strive to approach therapy with radical genuineness, compassion, warmth, and humor. I believe that therapy at its best is a creative, judgment-free space between equals. This creates an environment where you can be yourself and learn to manage thoughts and emotions getting in your way. I like to incorporate techniques from DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered Therapy, attachment theory, body-centered approaches, sports psychology, mindfulness, body positivity, trauma-informed practices, and sometimes a dash of geek culture references.

My experience teaching courses in French and world literature and queer, feminist, and transgender theory also informs the way that I listen and support what is creative—and what is writing and written—in my clients.
As a clinician in training for Lacanian psychoanalysis, I will tune in to what’s causing suffering in your life. Symptoms and crises appear at precise moments in our lives, with logics of their own linked to the unsaid and the unspeakable. This is why the one "rule" of psychoanalysis is free association: saying anything and everything that comes to mind. By working in session with your dreams, we will make a space for your unconscious, for what is not working in your life, and we will explore both what is out of control and what it is you want.

I have been trained to provide gender affirmative mental health assessments to help people who are transgender , gender non-conforming, nonbinary, or agender prepare and receive a letter for surgery.
My focus is to help LGBTQ+ individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths through counseling. I achieve this by providing a neutral safe space, listening to your concerns, and customizing a treatment plan. My specialties include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and techniques from Somatic Experiencing. I use the Minority Stress Model as a framework for understanding how discrimination, prejudice, gender norms, and racism results in higher occurrences of psychological problems.

I served as a national trainer on sensitive transgender health care within the VA Health Care System for six years.
I provide a safe, respectful, nonjudgmental setting to explore and discover solutions to diverse challenges. A critical element of therapy is the development of a trusting relationship between the client and therapist and can impact the healing process. Healing is a unique and individual process, as such, I believe it is important to learn of the uniqueness of each client and their goals for therapy. I work with diverse populations, including LGBTQ adolescents and adults. I have been an advocate/trainer/educator on the health and well-being of LGBTQ people for over 20 years.

I have a special interest and experience working with transgender clients and their families.
I am currently only providing online therapy through Thera-Link a HIPPA compliant platform. As a strength based systemic family therapist, I believe in looking at the whole person not just the "issues or labels" clients are struggling with when they seek out therapy. My approach explores the emotional, physical, behavioral, relational, cultural and spiritual aspects of clients lives that interfere and/or enhance quality of life.

We each have an authentic self, and things we know to be deeply true about our hearts, minds, identities and lives. I believe that no matter how confused we may feel, we can all find our way back to what is unique, creative and courageous in ourselves. These are challenging times. There is nothing maladjusted about feeling anxious or depressed in a world that does not feel equitable or safe. My goal is not to help you adjust to broken things; it is to build upon the strengths of your identity, your values and your truth so that you can work towards the goals that are important to you.

Teletherapy
Teletherapy and Online counseling have grown enormously as a medium for therapy since the advent of social distancing. Most therapists are happy to provide sessions by video or phone.

All professionals are licensed to provide video therapy to clients within the State in which they hold their license. Cross State licensing exists, but is rare.

So if you're a client in Minnesota, this list of teletherapists are licensed to provide therapy to you online (by phone, video or text based chat) because they are within your state. They are sorted nearest to furthest, with professionals in Minnesota listed first.

Teletherapy via phone or video can be very similar to conventional in person sessions. The message is the same, even if the medium is different. There are some advantages in the form of convenience, lack of travel and being in comfort of your own home. Set against those, professionals find it more difficult to read non-verbal signals of their clients, and you may find you yourself can be more easily distracted.
