“People will forget what you said or what you did, but not how you made them feel.” This is a quote I try to live by both as a therapist and in my personal life. Life isn’t always about being the smartest, or the funniest, or the most successful. Being kind towards others often resonates louder and lasts longer. As a therapist, I strive to make sure my clients feel heard and understood. Life often takes unexpected twists and turns, and we can all use an extra ear to listen and help us get back on track. I take a genuine and down to earth approach and I’m ready to join you wherever you are in life.

To find out what is going on we need to utilize a simple formula for understanding your problem(s). Initially maybe it is as simple as shifting from problem focus to understanding that your problems really are messages from your unconscious mind. There is a unique code these messages utilize to manifest in your life. This code can be deciphered by beginning to identify the unique set of internal psychological and external environmental factors that contribute to your problem(s). The most basic or fundamental elements of your problem/code are visual, auditory and kinesthetic (i.e. your feelings).

My goal is to help every child, adolescent, and/or young adult touched by ADHD navigate through their specific challenges, and find their unique areas of brilliance. I have been practicing as a child and adolescent psychologist for over twenty years. I work closely with youth, parents, educators, and families. One of my primary areas of expertise is neuropsychological testing, which has given me great insight into how children and adolescents learn. I founded my own organization, ADHD&U, in 2019 after writing a book about raising my own son with ADHD (Raising Will: Surviving the Brilliance and Blues of ADHD).

Carissa is very positive, and very relaxed. She’s not one to rush, or push. Working with her is like taking a long walk with a friend in a state park: your making movement at a chill pace. Carissa is a gifted and talented therapist and has a very calming and centering vibe about her. She is the type of person that is up for talking about, addressing, or accomplishing just about anything. She’s “go with the flow” in all the best ways. This is what makes her such a perfect fit for teens and young adults as she goes at their pace.

I believe a huge part of what makes therapy work is the relationship between the client and the therapist. Practicing psychodynamic therapy allows me to be curious about and get to a deep understanding of a person’s experience of themselves, others and the world around them. This has allowed clients who have worked with me to feel seen, heard and safe in the therapy space, often leading to change and growth they are seeking.

I provide therapy to adults experiencing difficulties, conflicts, or dissatisfaction. Together, we’ll identify what’s causing these problems by talking about your present, past, dreams, fears, strengths, creativity, and hopes. We’ll work to build a trusting alliance, look for patterns in your history, and try to make meaning out of them. My job is to listen attentively and without judgment; yours is to speak as freely as possible. The goal is to help you feel better.

Have you wanted to talk about gender and explore your sexual orientation with someone who understands? As a queer, poly, nonbinary transmasc, Kat found that sharing space with other LGBTQIA+ people helped them better understand and navigate their world. Our identities and feeling connection matter. Therefore, he believes in making representation and community care an active focus in working with youth, adults, families, and couples/polycules. He understands that even in his community, everyone’s experience is unique; his goal is to meet you where you're at, actively listen to your goals, and collaborate together to meet them.

I believe that therapy is collaborative, and I hope to meet you where you are in working towards a life that feels most authentic to you. Clients I work best with are those who are wanting warm invitations to try working from a different perspective and reconnect with their emotions and experiences of the world.
