I am an experienced psychologist, couple and family therapist and nurse. Having had a career as a nurse clinician and educator before I became a mental health professional I can address a broad range of issues. I enjoy helping people find ways to improve the quality of their lives and their relationships. I believe that, in general, people do the best they can under the circumstances. I also believe that people are most likely made desired change in a positive environment where they feel accepted and respected. My goal is to create that kind of an environment. Welcome.
I have a deep passion for helping others restore emotional balance to their lives. I believe every individual is capable of change and possesses positive skills that can be strengthened to achieve their desired change. I have experience working with children, teens, couples, individual adults, and families.
Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, MA, LPCC
I offer warmth, humor, authentic feedback, along with a deep respect for the people with whom I work. My focus is on hearing what people want in their lives--including their biggest dreams--and then helping them develop the skills and confidence to go for it. I create a supportive place to work through emotions, identify strengths, expand coping strategies, and find meaning in life's challenges. I also help couples cultivate deeper levels of connection and shift unhelpful patterns. I love witnessing clients enjoying their relationships more fully- including partnerships, family, friendships and community ties.
I have over twenty years of experience as a psychotherapist treating children, individuals and families. I have been intensively trained as a child psychoanalytic psychotherapist, which has given me the basis to understand and to integrate diverse techniques during my practice for the assessment and treatment of people with different disorders. I greatly enjoy working with the Hispanic population and I have a clear understanding and respect of the cultural values and traditions of the community.
What you can expect from me: I am a firm believer in the power of relationships, to both hurt and heal. In my work with clients, I let the idea harms inflicted through relationships must be healed through relationships guide my approach. If we work together, expect me to be genuine, direct, and caring. I use empathy, humor, and curiosity to provide a feeling of safety and a secure base for clients to explore. I have worked with clients experiencing co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders and specialize in the areas of: anxiety, parenting, addiction, trauma, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills.
My ideal client would be someone who is in need of non-judgemental insight, honesty and listening. My clients are actively involved in their treatment goals. I can help you as you determine your specific treatment goals, and work with you to develop a personalized plan to address your concerns. Sometimes it can be difficult for a person to know what they need, especially when in the midst of a crisis. I specialize in presenting options, and helping people to navigate the path to success. My clients most value my honesty, acceptance and insight.
Deciding to come to therapy can be a difficult decision; one that takes courage and often comes with some anxiety and ambiguity about what the process will entail. I consider empathy, sympathy, and honesty are the key elements to a nurturing and successful therapeutic relationship. I’ve spent the last 4 years training and working with clients at institutions such as New York Presbyterian, New York University and Cornell Medical College. *** Hablo Espanol*****

I use biofeedback plus Cognitive Behavior Therapy to help people accomplish their goals, including reducing or eliminating the need for medications. I work with Liz Nash, MA, LMFT, AT-RBC and Brenda Hightshow, MA, LPCC. We work with anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, traumatic brain injury and learning disabilities. I use quantitative EEG "brain mapping" with a normative database when the need is to establish why people are having the symptoms they're having. Quantitative EEG identifies problems we address with EEG Biofeedback, which helps clients learn to pay attention without drugs, relax, and feel more like themselves.
I work with all ages, individuals, couples and families using experiential therapies (Art, Biofeedback and Qeeg guided Neurofeedback) and more traditional talk therapies (Cognitive Behavioral Methods) so that you can learn more about yourself and others, live well, feel content and achieve what you desire. My clients describe me as having a creative, easy going and gentle style.
Are you feeling stuck in your relationship & unsure of what to do? Have you been hurt by infidelity, or feel like you and your partner are growing apart? Are you feeling overwhelmed, alone, lost or broken? Are worries constantly running through your head & you just can’t “turn it off”? Life is full of difficult transitions. Relationships end, children leave the nest, jobs are lost, important people in our lives pass away. It can leave you with just enough energy to put on a brave face and “fake” it through the day. But what if life could be different?
I have 35 years of experience helping people find a way to live a richer and more satisfying life. Therapy is about empowering individuals and coming face-to-face with adversities. Clients are helped to explore past experiences that impact current emotions and behaviors. In order to change you need to resolve internal conflicts that lead to emotional distress, unwanted behaviors and physical symptoms. I help to create a safe place for you to be able to talk about the meaning of your feelings and thoughts thus gaining greater knowledge of self.
Over the course of twenty years as a practicing psychologist, my compassion for the challenges and complexities of life has deepened, and I appreciate the fears associated with change. My approach to therapy emphasizes meeting people where they are at and creating a collaborative treatment plan. Alongside an orientation of optimism and resilience, I stress new-skill development and the incorporation of personal strengths.
I help couples in conflict and those who want to develop their relationship into a stronger alliance. Conflict affects us all in many ways. Mostly, I work with individuals, couples and groups to understand the impact of confusion, upset and misunderstanding on our relationships. Sometimes depression and anxiety are overwhelming and that causes lots of problems in our ability to make our life work. I hear from clients that they felt better after our session because they were able to talk through a problem and understand the situation better.
Today’s world is a very complex place and our stress levels are often off the charts. Many times, it would be good to just have someone to talk to. Someone to discuss our stressors with – relationships, workplace issues, issues of aging and loss, issues with alcohol or drugs. I would love to be able to sit down with you and help in any way I can. I have 18+ years dealing with all of these issues and more. I am conveniently located in West Fargo just 4 blocks south of Sandy's donuts. My hours are 1pm-7pm, Monday-Friday, with occasional Saturdays. Please give me a call and I will help you in whatever you are dealing with.
In this time of uncertainty, I offer flexibility and telehealth services. My experience living in New York during 911 enhances my ability to help you deal with sudden changes and the unknown. Therapy should be a collaborative process that helps you be a healthier you. Can you identify what you would like to make different in your life and the steps needed to accomplish your goals? What might get in the way? These are tough questions. I help you stay focused on your priorities, hold space while you talk through your process, and offer and support as you navigate your way.
Life can feel overwhelming, confusing, hopeless, and or scary. But we don't have to feel this way alone. I want to be the person that will truly listen when it feels like nobody else will, and will help lead you to a better, happier you.
At various points in life we can become frustrated, stuck or confused and uncertain about how to move beyond the frustration or confusion. I welcome adolescents and adults who find themselves in a difficult place in life and are eager to move forward in their lives. I see these as valuable opportunities to engage with clients to make sure I understand their current situation and their desired outcomes, even when the client may be initially unsure themselves. I will provide the direction needed for you to more clearly see those goals & from there we will work together to identify an array of options available for forward movement.
I have worked with clients with a wider range of issues that include substance use disorders, process addictions, depression, anxiety, grief, personality disorders, mood disorders, trauma, PTSD, relationship issues, and codependency, just to name a few.
