I utilize a variety of modalities in my work including Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectal Behavioral, Solution Focused, Mindfulness-based, Trauma Focused, Acceptance and Commitment, and Play therapies.
Hello! Taking the first step into therapy can be difficult and finding a therapist you are comfortable with is vital for the therapeutic process. I hope you are proud of yourself for taking the first steps on your journey. Over the previous five years, I have been blessed to be able to work and grow my knowledge in the mental health world while helping myself discover my highest priorities as a counselor: to offer respect, support, and encouragement. I look forward to hearing your story and working to help you reach the goals you have for yourself.

I work from orientations including mindfulness, gestalt, and transpersonal.
I believe in healing through therapeutic relationship. Establishing trust creates a safe container in which to experience change. I identify as an able-bodied, white woman and I continue to work on my education and awareness of how my privilege in these identities impacts others. My graduate work was at Naropa University, where I deeply connected with the Buddhist roots of my education. I welcome people from all religions and backgrounds.

I have an eclectic practice in which I pull from a number of different techniques and theories, including brain spotting, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, play therapy, gestalt therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Counseling is a journey and admitting that you need help is one of the hardest and most rewarding things you will do. This is an active journey that we will take together. Often we feel that activity and movement will help us to feel better, but underneath that unrest is a range of psychological processes such as depression, overwhelming stress, perfectionism, and anxiety. Choosing to ignore your issues tends to make life more difficult and places a strain on your relationships. Through our counseling relationship we will create goals, set the pace and find your path of healing.

I am trained in a variety of treatment techniques including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), DBT, CBT and mindfulness.
Counseling for children, teens and adults who are seeking support to improve social and emotional wellbeing and alleviate distress. As an LCSW, I work with individuals in finding their own inner expert. I believe that people intrinsically have the strengths to lead happy and productive lives but are sometimes unable to leverage those internal resources when faced with adversities such as loss, trauma, depression or anxiety. I work with people as they understand their own struggles to help them address past issues that contribute to their present mindset and develop strategies using their internal resources.

I work from an eclectic approach with a passion for narrative therapy, EMDR, DBT, and mindfulness-based tools.
I believe all individuals are capable and strive to succeed though there are times we all struggle and need a supportive individual there to help us through these times. This may be through gaining skills, telling their story, learning about themselves, or simply through practice. I have a passion for working with adolescents, couples, and those who have experienced trauma. I strive to provide a safe space for all individuals and simply enjoy working with people from all cultures, and backgrounds. No issue is too big or too small as long as we develop a strong therapeutic relationship, we can work through them all.

I believe practicing mindfulness and positive communication are necessary in finding solutions.
Life is tricky. Sometimes it shows up in unexpected or unwanted ways. We get to choose how to walk through it. Struggles, confusion, disappointments, and pain are indeed part of life on life's terms. Together we can move forward.

Over the past 8 years I have become certified to teach mindfulness in conjunction with other tools to manage anxiety and depression.
I work with those who struggle with anxiety, depression or trauma. I strive to offer a compassionate space so that you can find your own healing path towards healthier living. The type of therapy that I offer is dependent on your needs and your particular situation. Choosing to seek help is a courageous act and we will work together to figure out how to best change your unhealthy thoughts and destructive behaviors and learn to work differently with intense emotional states. We will work beyond "just think more positive" to embracing all the complexities of this wild and profound life to live more fully and with deep compassion.

I tend to draw on a combination of techniques from Faith-based principles (Biblically), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness.
Sometimes life is just hard. Therapy can help navigate challenges experienced in life by providing a safe, nonjudgmental environment in which feelings can be heard and validated and behavior patterns can be challenged to provide a more fulfilling and meaningful life. I am a compassionate individual who values the opportunity to be a part of your journey to bring awareness, identify strengths, challenge old thoughts and behaviors and cultivate personal growth. I honor and respect each and every individual who finds the courage within to ask for help and look forward to supporting you on your journey to a better you.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
