I take an integrated approach to treatment drawing from my training in polyvagal, cognitive-behavioral, somatic, EMDR, mindfulness, and attachment-based modalities.
Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to pursue a career path that would make a difference in people’s lives. This interest led me to study psychological science, social work, and social justice. I care deeply about human rights, cultural humility, and integrating anti-oppressive practices. As a LCSW, I am committed to the well-being of all my clients to cater to their holistic needs. I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults regarding various issues, including: anxiety, depression, stress, complex trauma, oppression, relationships and intimacy, sexual assault and domestic violence, and LGBTQ+ dynamics.

My therapy is based on the principles of Eastern Philosophy: Mindfulness (bringing attention to one's internal experience), Nonviolence (practice of harmlessness of self and others), Mind-Body Holism (mind and body are seen as an integrated unit), Organicity (reconnecting the self to reveal the inner wisdom), and Unity (systems are integrated wholes).
I work holistically incorporating mind, body, and spirit. My background includes training in Hakomi Body-Centered Psychotherapy which focuses on felt present experience of the body to access core material of the psyche. I provide virtual and phone sessions. My apologies, my website is currently down and under construction. I can accept straight Medicare in Virginia out of network private insurance or cash. I am now licensed to do Telehealth in Virginia, Nevada, Washington, Utah and Vermont.

I use a mixture of methodologies including, Mindfulness, Health at Every Size (HAES), Adult Attachment, and Somatic Experience, in addition to building a foundational understanding of how our culture of upbringing affects our current patterns.
Hi, I'm so glad you are here taking the first step in finding a therapist. Maybe you're really struggling and need help or maybe you need someone with whom you can feel safe to talk things through. Either way, I'm here for it. I find it useful for all my clients to start by building skills around being more compassionate to themselves. With a foundation of self-love, we can then begin to peel back the layers to do the deeper internal work. We will co-create goals and check in regularly to see how progress is going. You already have an inner wisdom and my job is to help you hear it more clearly.

Using a mindfulness-based approach and drawing from evidence-based practices, I help clients gain insight, improve relationships, support the mind-body connection, tap into inherent strengths, and strengthen coping skills to alleviate distress.
If you are looking for a safe space to explore your feelings, process grief, heal from trauma, or just navigate this messy, beautiful thing we call life, then I might be a good fit. Growth happens in connection, and I strive to create a strong therapeutic relationship where clients feel safe, supported, and resilient. I work with teens and adults managing issues related to depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, relationship dynamics, and loss. I have advanced training in perinatal mental health and lived experience with birth-related trauma. I am neurodiversity-affirming and a queer ally.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
