Our natural state is wellness. Yet many of us feel sick in our souls. Empty and discouraged, we seek creative bandaids to contain our despair : pursuits of money, relationships, sex, achievement, adventure, good works, productivity. Even health practices can become compulsive activities that fail to mend a persistent sense of inner broken-ness. Mindful Psychotherapy cultivates inherent wellness in the midst of life difficulty and opens the potential for real and lasting change. I am now honored to offer Mindfulness for couples as a certified Dialogue Therapist, a powerful time limited intervention : https://young-eisendrath.com/d

As a somatic and mindfulness-based mental health counselor, I work with individual adults in identifying and affirming gifts and strengths; finding and maintaining calm, connection, and contentment; and creating new patterns that encourage health, growth, and resilience through life’s changes. A session with me might include movement exploration (informed by dance/movement therapy and yoga), awareness-building (mindfulness and meditation) exercises, therapeutic conversation, and lifestyle coaching. Sessions can be online, or outdoors among the trees - an opportunity to gain insight and inspiration from the natural world.

I have trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and CBT-I for insomnia, Mindfulness, and Self-Compassion.
My aim is to help you address problematic ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving by way of examining the ways in which you perceive the world around you. The goal is to assist you in reaching a position of appreciation for your genuine self (for you are the perfect you) and an acceptance of the events that occur in your life. I would be honored to take part in your journey of discovering the narratives which potentially distort reality and lead to discomfort, diminished self-worth, or other barriers to attaining contentment.

My client-centered approach draws from many modalities including mindfulness, parts work, traditional talk therapy, and somatic awareness, with a light touch and flexibility which many clients find spacious.
I believe that the most healing, transformative therapeutic work occurs when there is an authentic relationship between therapist and client. I provide an environment which fundamentally supports a feeling of safety by witnessing you where you are with curiosity and without judgment. For many people, feeling safe also involves being able to set their own pace in therapy.

I have been in the counseling field for over 30 years and have spent my time in Community Mental Health and Private Practice. I believe in the power of the human spirit to rise above the suffering that we all experience. Mindfulness is the foundation of my practice and I believe that becoming aware of our thinking patterns and distortions can move us in the direction of less suffering. When we can live in the present moment we can be free of the past and the depression this can cause and free of the future where anxiety and worry can reside. We can shed the stories we have carried for many years and develop a more spiritual path.

I tailor my approach to your specific needs, using mindfulness, DBT, CBT, Gestalt and psychodynamic therapies.
Therapy can seem like a challenge at the beginning. The most important thing is that the client experiences a sense of safety and agency. I always appreciate when clients share openly about their struggles and communicate what they think is helpful. Clients already come with a lot of knowledge and experience. As a professional I aim to bring my skills and therapy experience to meet clients where they are at that moment. Good therapy involves both listening to the what each client needs and adapting my approach to help guide them and help them overcome challenges.

I enjoy working with people who are struggling with infertility, perinatal concerns, and new parenthood. I am especially interested in supporting those who desire to build their own families and need emotional support through the process of infertility, fertility treatments, and exploring various pathways to parenthood such as surrogacy and adoption. I am a strong advocate for maternal mental health and I believe more support for mothers is needed in our society after birth and adoption. I also enjoy working with those who are going through transitions in life, whether that is due to relationship changes, a move or change in job.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
