I work from humanistic and person-centered perspectives, and my approach to therapy is mindfulness informed with a focus on the mind-body connection for healing.
We all need support at times to care for our internal and external worlds, and to dive into the depths of our often layered lived experiences. To care for ourselves in this way, we may need to pull up the weeds of adversities or traumas at a pace that feels right. I hope to offer a warm and compassionate atmosphere for you as you gently tend to the past while remaining rooted in the present. Through attention and intention in therapy, I believe that flowers of wisdom, curiosity, self-compassion, resilience, and hope can grow.

Are you taking care of your mental health?! Self-care is a buzz word especially since a global pandemic shocked us all out of complacency and feelings of safety. I believe mental health is a daily practice like diet, fitness, sleep and mindfulness that we all need to engage in regularly. An experienced guide and wellness partner can make all the difference! I have 16 years of practice working with a very diverse population. As a gay man living in Utah I understand the challenge of unseen individuals and I have experience working with a varied group of individuals. Certified in Mind Body Medicine and EMDR. Trauma proficient.

In my practice, I combine therapy & coaching techniques including mindfulness, self inquiry, acceptance & commitment therapy & a strength based approach.
Everyone has issues & problems. Healthy people admit it. I grew up with debilitating anxiety & OCD. In life, you can choose passion or fear. I chose fear for 30 years. I was a prisoner to anxiety when I found myself at the end of my proverbial rope. I began working with a therapist who helped me to understand the root causes of my fears, but I still felt stuck. I started working with a somatic coach who taught me about mindfulness & body work and took me on a life-changing journey to India, where I trekked in the Himalayas & discovered my life's purpose - to turn my trials into triumphs so that I can help others to do the same.

Specializing in anxiety, relationships, parenting, pregnancy and postpartum, I integrate psychodynamic, attachment, behavioral, and mindfulness approaches.
You're working long hours and still trying to maintain a sense of balance, or maybe getting pregnant is harder (and more isolating!) than you thought. If this sounds like you, know that you’re not alone. Your needs are clear: you're ready to overcome obstacles, develop healthier coping skills, and build stronger, more meaningful relationships. Your goals to gain practical tools to navigate life's complexities are ambitious yet achievable.

Healing is real and possible. Suffering does not have to last. I help clients live authentically, find more peace, and connect more to self and others by increasing awareness and acceptance of emotions, increasing body discernment/somatic mindfulness, and enhancing the body/mind/spirit connection. Feeling better comes through learning to regulate the nervous system through the reprocessing of old trauma and healing one's attachment wounds, expressing emotions using expressive arts/music/movement/drumming/psychodrama/writing/etc., learning to re-frame negative thoughts, increasing shame resilience, and practicing self-compassion.

We all need support, life brings planed and unexpected change, transitions and requited growth. My clients may feel the pressure of perfectionism, feeling not-good-enough or second guessing themselves, feeling stuck in life. They may have physical or emotional pain and a big stress overload. Often feeling pulled in too many directions, with too many responsibilities, caring for too many projects or people. They can feel lost or adrift, that life is not progressing or as meaningful or happy as they had hoped. Grief & loss build up & worry about the ability to change can immobilize so they often feel stuck & afraid in life.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
