Therapy is a collaborative process. Every individual is unique and going on this journey is the first step to you working towards becoming your best self. This looks different for everyone, so I like to start with a free consultation call so we can see if its a good fit. I have worked in Mental Health for over a decade. I have experience with crisis intervention in the community, working with individuals/families. For the last several years, my focus has been using talk therapy, with a mindfulness approach, assisting folks going through life transitions, experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and caregiver burnout.

My work utilizes mind and body approaches, such as Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, EMDR, mindfulness, and parts work to explore and work through challenges that you are facing.
Life is full of overwhelming experiences, both past and present that impact our day to day functioning. Perhaps you are feeling lonely, hopeless, anxious, depressed, or overwhelmed. Maybe you are finding that past experiences are causing disruptions in your present life. Know that you do not have to go through this on your own. My goal is to create a supportive relationship where you can share your struggles without feeling judged. I aim to provide a space for you to learn skills, grieve losses, heal traumas, learn to cope with anxieties, overcome depression, and develop a more secure relationship with yourself and others.

I specialize in utilizing talk therapy through various clinical approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, coping skills building and strengths perspective.
Prioritizing mental and emotional health may sometimes feel hard to do when there is so much going on. However, the feeling of growth, strength, hope and triumph are worth it when taking the step to improving one’s mental well-being. Navigating past or present stressors doesn’t have to be done alone. I have 8 years of social work practice and acquired experience in working with with children, adolescents and adults in addressing their anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, family conflict, crisis intervention and emotional instability.

Additionally, I practice and have great respect for the healing capacities of yoga and meditation and offer space for mindfulness modalities as part of the psychotherapeutic work if you are interested.
Life can be complicated and circumstances can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself, others and the world. Maybe you feel shame, anxiety, loneliness, struggles with eating and body image, or are needing support as a new parent. I treat a range of issues and embrace a body-mind-spirit approach that understands your symptoms as an invitation to look deeper within to reclaim a state of liberation, wholeness and healing. I work from place of curiosity and collaboration with you so you can feel better, discover your path and live a life of purpose and meaning.

I find it helpful to utilize relaxation and mindfulness work with clients.
It can be challenging to go through the stages of therapy, but the goal is that you leave the session exhaling with a smile that you took a step towards supporting yourself, that you made yourself a priority, and are on your way to tackling life’s stressors. We can work together to face the struggles that brought you to therapy and find solutions that help you feel inspired and empowered. I have spent much time doing crisis intervention and trauma therapy work. I am also passionate about working with grief/bereavement clients and have recently developed an interest in working with self-esteem building in client sessions.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
