In Mindfulness Based Somatic Emotional Processing, I support you in connecting with your body's intrinsic capacity to process your experiences.
Are you feeling stuck? To feel stuck emotionally, professionally, relationally and in thought patterns is a common experience of human beings. Let's work together to get unstuck: allowing your creativity to flow uninhibitedly, your emotions to become valuable and digest-able, your aspirations to become realities and your relationships to become more fulfilling. Providing online therapy for Ohio and New Mexico residents.

Life brings us experiences which cause us stress, stretch our capacity to cope. We respond with depression and anxiety. We resort to ineffective behaviors such as substance use, attempting to maintain our stability. The impact on us can be devastating and we can spiral out of control, often resulting in a disruption in our relationships, ability to work, ability to manage tasks and affairs and our ability to find satisfaction or meaning in our lives. Using mindfulness based approaches and Internal Family Systems to remove blocking emotions and beliefs can help find balance and promote healing.

A number of interventions are employed—Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Unconditional Positive Regard, Brief/Solution Focused Therapy; meditation/mindfulness training, creative visualization, reframing, and trauma work—among others.
I am available to be of service to virtually anyone that is struggling to enjoy their lives, who feel that there are barriers standing in the way of reaching their goals and fulfilling their potential. Anxiety is a significant challenge and interferes with day-to-day life in many ways. These challenges may come from any number of situations—family, jobs, trauma (physical, sexual, or situational),  poor self-image, feelings of inadequacy, fear of any number of daily situations, and the horrible feeling of powerlessness. I have considerable experience working with individuals with substance abuse challenges.

I have been in practice in New Mexico for 23 years, treating depression, anxiety, relationships, and life changes. I am continuing to do video and telephonic sessions for individuals. I like to use a listening, supportive stance with clients to help them feel comfortable in talking about their problems. Some of the techniques I use are mindfulness, regulating emotions, relationship skills, tolerating distress, and mind/body techniques. I believe that therapy works, and is worth the time, effort, and money you put into it.

In my 15 years of practice, I have found, that at my core I am a client centered therapist. This means that I believe that the process of therapy is driven by the client and what their needs are in the present moment. That said, I have also discovered that using cognitive behavioral techniques to help sort through unhelpful thoughts that might be driving anxiety or depression is an important part of the process, as is teaching mindfulness techniques to help calm the body and the brain.

Often people are struggling with something in their lives that is out of balance or going through a transition and reinventing themselves. Basically, I help people find their way again. If you are interested in developing mindfulness and a greater sense of safety and wholeness, let's connect!.
Would you like to better understand and express your emotions? Or feel more comfortable, ease, and confidence in your relationships? We may have experienced things in our lives that disrupt our sense of self, our ability to regulate our emotions, and our ability to have successful relationships. Engaging in therapy can be a supportive, validating, and empowering experience. When we learn about our emotions, identify patterns that are decreasing the quality of our life, and learn to do something different, we feel more empowered to create the life and relationships we want. We also have the ability to feel safer in our bodies.

These include: dialectical behavior therapy, internal family systems, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and mindfulness based therapy.
I believe the foundation of any therapeutic relationship is a safe and welcoming atmosphere where clients can be and express their authentic selves. As we go through our lives we may find ourselves burdened by our past, torn by difficult decisions, or struggling to let go of behaviors that do not serve us how we would like them to. In therapy we take a mindful approach of gentle curiosity to welcoming and communicating with parts of our being that have been hurt, neglected or unreasonably burdened and learn skills and techniques to manage inner turmoil successfully.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
