I incorporate mindfulness into all of our sessions.
Whether I am working with a young child or an adult, I believe that the healing process is a journey of returning home to the authentic self with the therapeutic relationship as a vehicle supporting the exploration. My name is Aimee and I hope to walk along with you on this journey, offering compassion, co-regulation, and some education along the way. When we can lean into the understanding of how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors have come to be, we may also begin to explore where we may have gotten stuck and how we can have a renewed access to the wisdom and assets that our bodies possess.

We will work together to help you practice mindfulness, self-compassion, and new coping and communication skills in a safe and supportive environment.
Accepting New Clients! You want other people to see you as smart and helpful, but you question these things about yourself and worry that you may not be measuring up. Your anxiety has been interfering in your day-to-day for awhile now and you may have even found yourself having panic attacks—something you now want to avoid at all cost. Others may have told you that you are too sensitive, but you can’t help what you feel and that you sometimes just need to get away from all the people and noise. You’ve found yourself struggling with your relationships, socializing, or both—and you just wish things didn’t have to be so hard.

My approach incorporates cognitive behavioral theories, mindfulness and acceptance, EMDR/trauma-focused and holistic methods.
I provide services for clients who I believe have the capacity to resolve their own problems with my assistance. I offer a professional relationship with my clients to assist them in exploring and resolving difficult issues. I believe that as people become more accepting of themselves, they are more capable of finding happiness and contentment in their lives. Self-awareness and self-acceptance are goals that sometimes take a long time to achieve. While some clients may need only a few counseling sessions to feel complete, others may require months. I offer a caring, empathic space to explore, heal and to try new ways of being.

Using modalities like ACT and mindfulness, we will use techniques in session that help you navigate difficult situations in the present and the future, and address the needs you have that cultivate your personal growth.
You deserve to feel heard and understood. Life transitions, relationship challenges, and exploring your identity can be overwhelming and make us feel alone. Starting at a new school, beginning a new job, or moving to a new place can be exciting and also bring up things within ourselves that may be unexpected or distressing. You may be asking yourself: What makes me feel most like myself? What are other people thinking? It can feel impossible to determine if you're where you "should" be as you navigate everything else that comes with being a teenager, college student, or young adult.

Every session we develop a genuine and therapeutic relationship that combines a person centered approach with mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, and various trauma techniques.
I believe for a person to thrive one MUST first be willing to examine themselves and be courageous enough to take the necessary steps to heal.

Therapy with me- I primarily use CBT, DBT and mindfulness models, while also drawing from other strategies in a holistic approach.
Let’s get real- we all need help sometimes. At any age, trying to make sense of the world can feel overwhelming. Is Mercury in retrograde? Maybe. But it doesn’t change our ability to help ourselves. Together, let’s turn down the noise and regain control over what is really important to you. Therapy should be engaging. I work with clients to find ways to connect in a real way using games, music and art. Difficulty with communication? What about navigating all life's transitions? Together, we will create a safe space to navigate these challenging areas and to find the way to peace and purpose.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
