Just to name a few: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), solution focused techniques, mindfulness therapy, and some law of attraction/ meditative practices/affirmations.
I have a passion for connecting and helping people reach balance, direction, and live a more fulfilling life. I work with teens, adults, couples, and families. I have worked with people from various backgrounds with anxiety, depression, grief, stages of life, trauma, severe mental illness, and marital/relationship, and identity issues. Therapy is highly effective, but requires openness, patience, and dedication! I would love to work with you and help you on this journey called “Life.” I am currently taking new clients in person and through telehealth(zoom).

Interventions such as CBT, DBT, EFT, MTI, Mindfulness and Solution-Focused therapy.
These last few years have presented many challenges for everyone. Depression, anxiety, addiction, grief and other issues are on a rise. It is not always easy to make the decision to reach out for therapy. However, therapy can help and support a person through what they are experiencing. Change is not easy; it takes courage to change and you do not have to face it alone. I have worked in acute care for many years with adults, elderly, children and adolescents. I feel confident to work with many mental health issues.

My approach is integrative and includes cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness techniques.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 14 years of experience, my practice is centered on helping my clients find balance and deepen their ability to access true wellbeing. My work, both inpatient and outpatient, has ranged from helping adolescents bolster self esteem and coping skills on one end to helping adults who have suffered from mood and personality disorders on the other. My specialty, though, lies in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders, and my work and anecdotal research has allowed me to develop a keen approach to the healing of these ailments on the path to achieving long term mental wellness.

I also focus on strength building, mindfulness, role playing, and relapse prevention.
With 9 years of experience working with all ages, I specialize in anxiety, depression, codependency, trauma, divorce, perfectionism, relationship issues, self-esteem, aging, women’s issues and life transitions. I particularly enjoy individuals who are open-minded, motivated, and willing to do the work while trusting the therapeutic process. It is so important to be willing to try new things by venturing out of your comfort zone during our time together. By not having to rely strictly on medication to mask your issues, therapy teaches you to cope with life’s struggles, and thus change your fearful view of the world.

I easily connect with and help those struggling with depression, trauma, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and addiction. Mindfulness-based techniques like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy are very useful in the therapy room. I also enjoy learning about and sharing information on neuroscience and the findings that benefit our every day mental health. I love using meditation with my clients because the benefits are too many to count! I also teach my clients how to use cognitive defusion (looking AT thoughts rather than FROM them), present moment awareness, and acceptance.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
