My approach to therapy is mindfulness based and solution focused.
As we go through life we face challenges, from these challenges we may experience pain and suffering. As this pain becomes stored within us it creates burdens that may sometimes be too heavy to bear. As a result many may turn to temporary solutions. As I work with clients to explore and resolve pain and trauma more permanent solutions are often discovered and the burden of pain is reduced.

You and your partner can’t seem to stop fighting. It seems like things are going along fine, and then something small happens. You may be on a walk or in the car, and all of a sudden there’s a shift and you’re arguing again. Most of the time, you don’t even know what you’re arguing about! Perhaps there has even been a deep pain of some kind, infidelity or another betrayal or rupture to your bond. You realize you need some help to work through it if you don't want to lose your relationship.

My theoretical framework comes from integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Internal Family Systems, mindfulness, self compassion, and shame reduction into what the client says is working for them.
Hello, I'm Kristina! I believe wellness has different definitions and paths for each person, and I love being a part of my clients' journey in creating, adjusting, and respecting that picture. My concept of quality therapy includes discovery, personally defined healing, creating new connections, and finding ways to take self-compassionate action. I enjoy art, media, and literature and integrate this into my work whenever possible. Clients and colleagues have described me as calm, compassionate, curious, and a bit nerdy. I embrace these identities in my role and enjoy working with a variety of communities and identities.

Some treatment approaches are mindfulness, music, art, talk, CBT, DBT, and solution focus.
Many of us feel disconnected, overwhelmed, and struggle to complete everyday tasks. When we begin to feel overwhelmed we sometimes find it hard to cope, begin to question ourselves, and start to find these feelings impact how we function in our relationships, at work, or even begin to struggle with taking care of ourselves. Perhaps we even find ourselves in patterns that are harmful despite all efforts to stop, leaving yourself feeling stuck, broken, stressed, or out of control. My goal is to help you rebalance and support you through these feelings, thoughts, and moments.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
