I draw from several therapeutic modalities, including EMDR for resolving traumatic memories and helping you shed unhelpful patterns, DBT to increase mindfulness, emotion regulation, and joy, and IFS to build self-awareness.
If you are dealing with high levels of anxiety or depression, or feeling overwhelmed by parenting, I'm glad you are reaching out for help. I specialize in supporting people through the huge changes and unwished for surprises of fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting -- helping you bring more calm, confidence, and connection to your parenting journey. Whether you are surprised by your anxious thoughts postpartum, in the midst of NICU parenting, struggling to not 'lose your cool' with your toddler, or don't know what to do about an unexpected pregnancy -- you don't have to face it alone.

I am eclectic and mostly use EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), CBT and Mindfulness, Brainspotting and Somatic Experiencing.
Are you feeling like losing a sense of direction or are stuck? Many things change in life and it can be extremely difficult to feel adequately in control during the transition. Take a moment now to consider the positive impact counseling can have - no matter where you are in your journey - and that you don't have to be altogether depleted to benefit from it. Counseling is a dynamic, educational process that teaches you tools to help you feel more healthy and balanced. Remember, it's healthy to seek help for yourself. Actually, it's a sign of strength to take care of your needs!

My approach is informed by solution-focused and narrative therapies, CBT, mindfulness practices, and dialectical thinking.
Life is full of challenges and opportunities. Sometimes it takes feeling understood and supported to find perspective that allows us to move forward with greater freedom and empowerment. I would love to help you with this process. Since the counseling relationship involves vulnerability and acceptance, it is important to find a “right fit” counselor. I will work to understand you and collaborate with you to help you reach your goals, and move into a space where you feel greater self-efficacy and hope.

Therapy offers the chance to become more present with ourselves. Together we contemplate the human journey. We can get familiar with our innate mindfulness and compassion. On my journey I've realized that well being can be learned; achieved with a level of skillfulness, a window of tolerance. Getting triggered helps us learn. I help individuals and couples study their nervous systems and their "parts" -- a complex legacy of neurobiological attachment wiring. With a manner that is warm, relatable, and active yet non-invasive, I help my clients find meaning, hope, and the freedom to become who they were meant to be.

I also utilize CBT, and DBT practices such as mindfulness, distress tolerance and acceptance.
My ideal client is a person who really wants therapy, willing to try different suggestions, has an open mind and understands that therapy is work. Their issues may range from trauma to stress to relationship issues and everything in between, inside out and upside down. I enjoy working with clients from all backgrounds from 7 years old to 99 years old. Most of my client's goals are centered around wanting to feel better, wanting to communicate better, wanting to have better relationships, basically wanting to be better versions of themselves.

The practice of mindfulness, paying attention to body sensations without judgement or attachment, helps to begin each appointment.
Do you have someone to talk about your medical problems, physical limitations, sports injuries, and health issues? Contact Kathryn and speak about your health. All physical symptoms are connected to some message that the body is trying to offer, a guiding voice and resource. The body speaks to us through symptoms and when we do not listen, it screams louder. Like a child being ignored, our body acts up to get attention. When we connect to our body wisdom, we receive new options, movement, insight, and emotions. Kathryn facilitates a conversation with your body to move beyond patterns.

I offer complementary treatment modalities, including mindfulness practices, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and hypnotherapy.
I am a licensed mental health counselor and graduate of Columbia University, and have been providing mental health services since 2006. My practice incorporates the client’s input and feedback, which in my experience is essential to achieving insight. I believe that the best therapy does not end with achieving insight, but should extend to helping my clients develop a practical plan for turning insight into action. My job isn’t complete until I have helped my clients foster the resilience and self-reliance necessary for managing daily challenges on their own.

I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral therapy and mindfulness to help people identify tools of the most benefit to them.
Hi, I'm Dr. Anna Laurie. I'm a Clinical Psychologist with twenty years of experience in the mental health field. My work focuses primarily on adults who are experiencing anxiety and depression, often in the context of stressful life problems. My goal is to help them get their lives back on track. I strive to create an environment for my clients where they feel safe and supported. I believe mental health therapy is some of the best, bravest work we as humans can do but it isn't always easy. It takes work, and it takes courage.

My approach is mindfulness-based, in that I believe that mind, body, and spirit are all connected, and healing cannot be broken down into component parts.
What is psychotherapy, and why would you want to receive it? For me, psychotherapy is communication. It is a means of reflecting you back to yourself in a way that is instructive, enlightening, and healing. If you are experiencing low self-esteem, depression, thoughts of suicide, post-traumatic stress, anxiety, or fearfulness about the future, you could benefit from psychotherapy.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
