My approach to therapy is eclectic and relational, combining various models (including person-centered, psychodynamic, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness and CBT) to serve your individual therapeutic needs.
You really want to enjoy life but everything seems daunting. You feel stuck, overwhelmed and confused. Life can be challenging but you don't have to go through this alone. My first aim in therapy is to create a space where you feel safe and heard. Together we embark on a journey of greater insight to understand what is holding you back and to create possibilities for change. I see therapy as a collaborative process: I bring my skills and experience, and you bring your whole self, your strengths and vulnerabilities, your fears and desires. My goal is to help you live a full and meaningful life in a way that feels true to YOU.

I have found from a personal and professional perspective that Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and mindfulness can help to create an uplifting environment both internally and externally to provide the support you need to accomplish your goals.
Everyone experiences difficulties in life and there is no time like the present to find help supporting the emotional weight you may be feeling. Whether it is the pandemic, the economy, or your personal experiences, external situations can have a serious impact on your internal self. By working as a team, my goal is to help you explore the reasons why you have these negative emotions and begin the process of lessening the impact they are having on your life. Emotional Regulation has been made harder through the current cultural climate and my hope is that together we can make your ability to feel at peace with yourself a reality.

In my work I emphasize culturally sensitive and trauma-informed approaches, blending Person Centered, CBT, Mindfulness, and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
Reaching out for support in our most vulnerable times can be painful, confusing, and quite literally scary! Whether you are a parent seeking support for your child, a family navigating challenging dynamics, or an adult facing a major life change, you will be met with authenticity and compassion. I believe our unique life experiences shape who we are, how well we connect with our inner Being, and how we interact with the world around us. Therapy is a place where you should feel heard, embraced, and most importantly- safe.

My work is grounded in mindfulness, cultural awareness, growth, and inter-connectedness It is important to understand oneself in order to understand our behaviors, outlooks, and life’s experiences.
There is no such thing as normal life- there is just life. It is up to us to define what life is like for us now and how we want life to be. We will differentiate wants from needs, address issues that lack understanding, and realign our goals for the betterment of oneself, lifestyle, and overall mental health. How you feel matters and will always resonate with you. Creating different techniques to help you externalize issues, understand your core self, and disrupt unhealthy patterns will help to transform you, your family, and your outlook on life as you see it. Let's work together to create the best impeccable version of yourself.

In order to assist / educate individuals in how to live more effectively without active addiction, I teach clients yoga, meditation, visualization, mindfulness, EFT (needle-free acupuncture), nutrition, supplementation, etc.
I've been in the addictions / mental health (dual diagnosis) field for over 20 years in Colorado, and have been ‘clean’ 30 years (as of 9/1/93). I sincerely believe in clients' ability to make enduring change, after they have learned to identify and accept what's not working in their lives. I'm a very accessible and active therapist, and I offer specialized groups to meet clients' needs. Groups occur Tuesday through Saturday, depending on group assignment. Individual sessions are often a part of effective treatment planning, in addition to, or instead of, group format. Reasonable pricing.

Mindfulness and Miracles are keystones in my sessions.
Non judgement and unconditional acceptance are the cornerstones of my practice. My strength is looking at each client's issues as opportunities for learning. Body centered education, teaching how emotional feelings become feelings in the body, is emphasized. Learning from my client's current awareness is the goal in any session. My work is non-religious but spiritual. My intention is to have each client lose the need for ongoing therapy. I have been successful in helping hundreds of individuals. I see adults, teens, couples and groups. I have offered Equine assisted therapy as an adjunct to my practice since 1999.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
