I am a Mindfulness and Trauma Resilience trainer who believes success and happiness result from a balanced mindset. Being stuck in unhealthy patterns, failing to accomplish the change we desire, or sustaining the nurturing relationships we deserve are all issues we expect to resolve on our own, but when we can't we feel defeated. Therapy is support that helps unearth our own best solutions while increasing skills and practices that grow fulfillment.

As a therapist I use my experience and in-depth training in Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Exposure to help clients gain clarity and a greater sense of control.
Are you feeling unsure about what you want for yourself? Has your stress and anxiety become so intolerable that it prevents you from enjoying the present and moving towards your desired future? Are you having trouble defining your goals or moving toward them? Do you struggle with feelings of self-loathing and low self-esteem? Many of us hit points where we confront injuries from our past or roadblocks in the present that feel too difficult to face, which can create feelings of hopelessness and extreme stress about how to move forward. With the right help and tools these challenges and lack of clarity can be resolved!

Are you feeling worried, stressed or overwhelmed? Do you often put other people's wants and needs before your own? Do you experience self-doubt or struggle with low self-esteem that leads you to feel like your thoughts, feelings and opinions are not important? If this sounds like you, you're probably also experiencing burn-out, imposter syndrome, disconnection with your body/emotions, and/or significant life-changes. Are you ready to get back into the driver's seat and take charge of your life? I would be honored to walk this journey alongside you, to hold space and provide support.

My approach is multi-modal using developmental guidance, play, arts, humor and mindfulness for growth, insight and change.
Wishing like parenting came with directions. Realizing you are not the parent, and or partner you thought. Negative behaviors bringing you down. Wondering if your child's ok? Challenges with siblings, bedtimes, strong emotions, school, fill in the blank... Parenting can be the most stressful time, when it is touted as the most joyful. It is a fast track to getting your PhD in personal growth & development. I have been there. And, I can help. We can talk about those dirty, little secrets. Together, concretely creating a plan with long, lasting results. Bringing ease and strength, breaking unhealthy patterns.

For comprehensive and evidence-based treatment, I provide culturally sensitive cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness-based care to address issues including but not limited to depression, anxiety, burnout, life stress, or sleep problems, as well as underlying intergenerational, cultural identity, or acculturation stress.
Stressful life events, endless thoughts in the night, and emotions that seem out of control can be overwhelming and isolating. Exhaustion and mental health stigma can further push quality of life and sense of fulfillment out of reach. As an Asian American psychologist in California, I am passionate about supporting my community through thoughtful counseling that cultivates deeper understanding and healing. I have presented research and workshops on the intersection of mental health and diversity, and have over 8 years of psychotherapy experience focused on building awareness, learning coping skills, and improving quality of life.

My approach is tailored to your needs, incorporating elements of evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness techniques.
You feel stuck. You are overwhelmed and exhausted, doing the bare minimum to get through each day. Your mind is full of things you “should” be doing, and you are easily paralyzed by indecision. Why is life so hard? You are not alone. I am committed to creating a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel seen and heard. Together, we will explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with openness and curiosity. Are there patterns that are holding us back? How can we adjust them to make life easier? What strengths can we lean on as we move forward? Over time, we can work towards developing a clearer sense of identity and purpose.

I am trained in EMDR and utilize mindfulness based stress reduction strategies along with cognitive behavioral therapy to identify and redirect faulty beliefs and change undermining behavior patterns, while providing oneself with a sense of comfort and east.
Therapy is an opportunity to gain objectivity and insight to what is working and what isn't working. Using a strength based approach, I support individuals, couples and families who are challenged with; relationships, career, parenting, depression, anxiety or substance use. I understand how daunting it can be to enact change. It takes support, strategy and a safe space to flush out ideas and process feelings. I have over 30 years of experience and have cultivated a unique and effective intuitive style as a therapist that only comes with practical knowledge and years of application .

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
