As a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, I offer a tailored experience to help you and your child/teen learn regulation skills to cope with stressors through play therapy techniques that include expressive arts, mindfulness, sandtray, and cognitive coping skills.
Are you weary from your infant/toddler's crying, tantrums and "not listening" behaviors. Has your child/teen experienced a really stressful or traumatic event and needs help coping? Are you wanting to have a better relationship with your child/teen with greater periods of connecting and feeling close to each other. I believe each of us has a spark inside of us that can build our resiliency through difficult times and cultivate daily joy. I have extensive experience helping children and families through the therapy process to strengthen their relationships and learn coping skills to "do hard things" that we all encounter in life.

I have a compassionate mindfulness practice and offer creative solution-focused approaches to reduce anxiety, depression, anger and relational conflict.
With specialties in addiction and dual diagnosis; including depression, anxiety and trauma history, I take an integrated, holistic approach to care. One can only be open to the experience of change and improvement in their life if they feel safe. This is the therapy space that I provide in order to help shape authentic, loving and accurate self-awareness. I provide nurturance, guidance, affirmation and compassionate reflection in order to help clients feel grounded in their own decision-making.

I am passionate about helping my clients build resiliency to life’s difficulties through empowerment practices, mindfulness training and cognitive restructuring.
Therapy is about removing obstacles and finding your inner wisdom that has been lost or suppressed along the way. Many of us break off from our authentic selves in order to survive difficult experiences in life. My approach to therapy is client-centered and collaborative to help you build strength and confidence. Utilizing an integrative approach I incorporate modalities such as mind-body connection, attachment theory, CBT and ACT.

Establishing a solid therapeutic relationship includes safety, confidentiality, respect, validation, support, patience, hope and a clear focus of therapy goals. I am interactive and collaborative in therapy sessions, helping individuals explore unhelpful coping strategies, heal attachment disorders, & explore the psychodynamics of what is really causing trouble below the surface. I employ both experimental and empirically validated methods that have been developed from the studies of the neurobiology of attachment, trauma, consciousness and mindfulness, as well as complementary traditions of mind-body healing. Partnering with my patients in the transformational process produces resilency that is needed for substantial change.

Congratulations on taking the first step toward emotional healing and reclaiming your inner power. There is a misconception that something is wrong with us if we need therapy. But the truth is that humans need other humans; we thrive in community and support. Therapy is a place to find support, to go inward and connect with yourself. My framework of practice is eclectic, using CBT, trauma-focused and culturally sensitive interventions, mindfulness and a systems approach—together we can find a more hopeful future & start living more fully in the present moment as you regain agency in your life.

I am trained in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and integrate treatment principles from Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness-Based Behavioral Therapy (MBBT).
Research suggests that it often takes a decade or more for those with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) to find appropriate treatment. As a therapist with lived experience of this complex and often misunderstood condition, I know firsthand both how painful and debilitating OCD can be as well as the limitations of traditional talk therapy in the treatment of obsessions and compulsions. My goal is to empower clients by providing them with the evidence-based tools and emotional support they need not only to successfully manage symptoms of OCD and anxiety disorders, but to thrive beyond the illusion of absolute certainty.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
