I integrate EFIT, EMDR, ACT, CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, Somatic Experiencing, Jungian, and existential to meet each person's unique history and needs.
Life prompts us toward growth and health, leading us to change thoughts, feelings, behaviors, or beliefs that keep us from peace and joy. Difficult childhood or adult experiences may disrupt our ability to connect well with our emotions and deepest heart's desires, making it challenging to have satisfying, healthy relationships. For over 20 years I have helped individuals and couples to heal old wounds and grow past outworn patterns into greater freedom and heart connections. Are you ready to answer life's call to grow? I offer myself as a trustworthy companion in the next phase of your life's journey.

This approach may include elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, family systems or solution-focused brief therapy.
Whether you have been dealing with an issue for years or if it is something that has recently surfaced, counseling can be beneficial in addressing the problem. Counseling provides a non-judgmental environment with encouragement to explore the source of the presenting problem and work towards a greater well-being. I enjoy working with adolescent teens through middle-aged individuals and couples on a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, anger management, relationship issues, mood disorders, coping skills, and self-esteem.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, so I am trained in various modalities: EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), CBT, ACT, DBT and mindfulness and meditation.
Life can definitely go sideways; I’m here to help you right what’s gone wrong. I’m probably not your typical therapist. I’m a lawyer, a mother and a mid-life divorce survivor. I’m transparent and a little unorthodox at times. You will never wonder if you are sitting with a real person. We will laugh, we may cry, and I won't mind if you drop an f-bomb or two. I will never judge you or presume to know more about you than you know yourself. Your story matters; I want to know how you show up in your life and how your history and experience coalesced to bring you here. I will not waste your time chatting; we have work to do.

I often utilize CBT, Mindfulness, Psychodynamic and other evidence-based practices to meet each client where they are at in their mental health journey.
Has anxiety left you feeling stuck? Do you worry about things that are out of your control? I am passionate about working with women who struggle with anxiety, depression and bipolar disorders. I enjoy connecting with others and talking them through the ups and downs of life's everyday stressors, as well as drawing connections between past and present experiences. I am a "realist" in that I act like myself in sessions, not like the stuffy armchair psychotherapist you might imagine from movies.

Depending on the issue and the client’s feelings, I regularly draw from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), family systems, psychodynamic, strength-based, mindfulness coaching, and EMDR.
Whether you've been in therapy before or are getting started for the first time, the process can sometimes feel overwhelming. I know it took a lot for you to get here, so while you’re here, I hope you connect with something that offers a bit of comfort. My experience and interest lies in working with adults healing from complex trauma (C-PTSD), family of origin wounds, narcissistic abuse, attachment issues and addiction. Since earning a Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling in 2010, I've held clinical positions ranging from residential primary therapist to clinical director, eventually transitioning to private practice.

I want to help those who feel stuck, struggle with avoidance, or feel disconnected from their values to build skills of flexibility and mindfulness. I want to work with you to reconnect with your values, set meaningful goals, and embrace the full range of human experience (positive and negative). Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
