I use techniques such as mindfulness, grounding, meditation, deep breathing and a variety of additional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) techniques to empower my clients to accomplish their mental wellness goals.
Are you struggling to understand why you feel the way that you do? Do you sometimes feel that you have a dark cloud overhead? Is it difficult to identify life circumstances that are contributing to low mood or easy to identify, however, hard to manage? Do you experience anxiety or panic attacks that interfere with your quality of life? With changes in perspective and cognitive restructuring, as well as acceptance, you have the ability to create the happiness and stability that you desire in your life. Happiness and healing are not linear. The exploration of past trauma opens up doors to emotions that are waiting to be resolved

Using evidence-based mindfulness and behavioral therapies, we will develop strategies and skills for making meaningful change.
Making changes in life can be difficult. Regaining your balance after the shock and impact of trauma, grief and loss can be overwhelming and feel as if nothing will get better. Relationships are important to you, yet sometimes bring on difficult feelings. Life after recovering from substance use can be challenging to navigate and can feel strange. You’ve taken the first step by reaching out. The good news is that you don't have to do it alone.

My work is influenced by Internal Family Systems (IFS) and I specialize in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), supportive reflection, Mindfulness-based techniques, and Solution Focused therapy.
Are you a teen or young adult who overthinks, worries too much, has difficulty focusing because of stress, or fears you're falling behind? Do college, choosing a career path, managing relationships or life transitions feel overwhelming? The pressure to be attractive, fit in, feel understood, earn top grades, and get into the best schools are hard on teens. Choosing a career path, interviewing, living on your own or supporting yourself, or making big relationship decisions can feel scary as a young adult. You don’t have to go this alone. I provide individual counseling and couples counseling for adults, adolescents, and children.

Sex addiction doesn't have to continue ruining your life. Life may feel hopeless, and your anxiety may be higher than you've ever felt before. Yet, it doesn't have to stay this way. My clients all have two things in common: 1) They want to be here for themselves, even when others are making them, and 2) They work to achieve their goals. They come to me usually in a state of panic or depression, or some even come in when their world is chaotic and out of control. When you're ready to tackle your issues, give me a call.

Therapy is a partnership that grows in an atmosphere of safety and acceptance. It allows one to rediscover the parts of selves which may have been disowned; to learn new skills to handle grief and distress; to build healthier, more nurturing relationships; and to gain access to one's own direct experience of the world. I nurture this collaboration with clients and recognize that within each of us there exists a deeper wisdom that, given adequate support, naturally moves toward healing and integration.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
