One of the gifts of therapy is to sit with another person who will accept you as you are, witnesses the complexity of your life, and believes in your inherent goodness. I encourage clients to see “life as the curriculum” and embrace the process of continuous learning and growing. I am certified in Trauma Responsive Care and integrate embodied explorations from gentle movement, to writing and art making into my work with clients. I integrate my experiences as yoga and mindfulness teacher by offering tools to help ground and regulate. I bring warmth, playfulness, abundant compassion, and humor to my work with clients.

I also integrate a tailored blend of evidence based therapies including; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness to help enhance the quality of my client's life.
As a counselor, my goal is to establish a warm and supportive relationship, free of judgment, and full of unconditional positive regard. By doing this, I take time to empathize with clients through their own eyes and collectively we develop an alliance and work towards goals as a team. I prefer to meet with the client first and then correspond the best theoretical orientation to the individual, couple, or situation. I believe that successful treatment needs to be personalized and that treatment needs to include and the environmental elements that are impacting the individual as well.

Welcome to my practice! The cultural challenges we face in the modern day are unique, confusing, and painful, especially for young people. We all have the strength inside us to make positive change in our life, and I cherish the opportunity to reveal that to you. In therapy, I look to meet people in their dark places and sit alongside them in their struggles while also providing support and encouragement.

Hello! I am a therapist and clinical social worker. I specialize in working with children, adolescents and young adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD and the effects of trauma. Regardless of my client's age, I bring a playful spirit, unconditional positive regard and evidenced-based interventions into each session. I would love the opportunity to help you or your child!

Let's face it, life can feel really dark at times. Everyone struggles with unwanted thoughts and feelings that seem to plague them. Everyone struggles with relationship conflict at some point in their lives. Most people believe that they are alone in their struggles, and they often believe that there is no answer and no way out. All of us want happy and peaceful lives with safe and nurturing relationships, but we often don't know how to create this kind of life. The good news is that these things are within your reach, if you are willing and ready to work hard to challenge yourself.

It's hard knowing where to even begin, right? Everyone thinks that you have it all together, but you’re feeling lost. You need to make some changes. But how? It can be exhausting to even get through the day. You manage so much - a career, home life, family, relationships, finances…the list goes on and on - but rarely do you put yourself at the top of the list. You're feeling the pressure of it all. This rapid pace has worked well for you and you’ve had your share of success, but it’s just not working for you anymore. Something has to give, but you don’t know exactly where to begin. Therapy can be a meaningful start towards healing.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
