Incorporating healthy lifestyle techniques as it relates to issues of depression, anxiety and self-esteem is unique to my practice.
I specialize in working with families, children, marriages/partnerships and adolescents. I am Gottman trained for couples counseling. I also EMDR trained. I employ a team approach that enhances existing supports and provides tools to assist with barriers. Throughout my twenty-five years of professional experience, I've had the great fortune to learn from the families, adolescents and adults who've placed their well being in my care. I believe in a mind body connection and holistic approach. Mind and body connections are vital to becoming a healthier individual both mentally and physically.

I have experience working with adults who struggled with anxiety, depression, grief, PTSD, substance use, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
Sharing one's thoughts and feelings with a complete stranger can seem awkward and bizarre. My goal early on in therapy is to make the experience feel as comfortable as possible by creating a space without judgement and aiming to understand you as a whole person, rather than simply a set of symptoms or a diagnosis. I believe that we all have the capacity to overcome life's many obstacles and live closer to our fullest potential. Although therapy is ultimately very serious, I use humor whenever possible so it doesn't feel like you're talking to a robot.

I specialize in working with adults across the lifespan who grapple with anxiety, a lack of fulfillment or meaning in their lives, family issues, unresolved conflicts, self-esteem, childhood trauma, and difficulties managing intense emotions such as anger.
My therapy approach is rooted in a developmental perspective that emphasizes the significance of human connection and belonging as well as the ways our past experiences influence our present day life. While our upbringing and environment may shape us into who we are today, our brains are "plastic" and capable of changing and adapting throughout our lives – a concept known as neuroplasticity. Just like how plastic can be molded into different shapes, our brains can reorganize themselves, form new connections, and even generate new neurons and pathways in response to novel experiences.

As a therapist, I have had the opportunity to work with adolescents, teens, and adults navigating life stressors, adjustments, and coping with anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma.
One of the beautiful things I have the privilege of witnessing as a therapist is the ever-evolving changes and awareness clients develop throughout their healing and growth process. I fully believe that each and every one of us is worth investing the work within ourselves when we develop the courage to seek help. I consider the therapeutic relationship with clients to be a team effort towards reaching the client’s desired goals and outcomes in a safe, non-judgmental space.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
