addiction
, negative-self thinking, and eating disorders.
When life just gets too hard, my job is to help empower people to get where they want and need to be. Whether a person is struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma,
addiction
, life transitions, family of origin issues, current relationships, or problems at work, I put my all into working alongside clients to draw out internal strengths and build a new, wonderful life. I am here to listen and to work alongside them so that they leave therapy much stronger and more hopeful than when they first came in. Together, we draw out strengths, transform old patterns, and build toward a new life: Life can get better!

I have the most experience in
substance
use, sexual assault, domestic violence, depression, anxiety, and co-occurring problems.
My ideal client is one that has taken the first step in therapy: being open to getting help. My approach to therapy is to identify current issues a person is having, and identifying and creating goals both long term and short term. I believe the best way to solve a problem is to identify what the problem truly is, and create a plan using steps to overcome the problem.

I have served clients presenting with depression, anxiety, life adjustment, loss, trauma, relationship issues, and
substance
abuse.
I want to make my clients feel safe and secure in session. I allow my clients to be met and heard where they are on their journey to build our therapeutic alliance. This alliance facilitates trust, respect, compassion, and security in our sessions. I want my clients to know that they do not have to walk this journey alone. My therapeutic style is empathic, compassionate, and lovingly direct to help increase clarity and reduce confusion about the often confusing time that leads one to seek therapy.

Have you ever thought that some of your behaviors are addictive in nature? Do you ever feel out-of-control with substances, food, sex, shopping and money? Have you ever felt that you put the needs of others above your own in order to feel good about yourself and fulfilled? Learn effective ways to feel complete with yourself without having to do any destructive behaviors or lower your self-esteem. One can be kind and gentle with themselves and still be giving to others in a healthy way. I have been working successfully with individuals, couples and families on these issues for 25+ years.

I work with 1) survivors of sexual, physical, and emotional trauma, 2) those experiencing difficulties associated with infertility, pregnancy,
substance
use during pregnancy, 3) families coping with unexpected complications, traumas, and losses, and 4) people experiencing discrimination, marginalization, and/or trauma due to some aspect of their identity.
I understand the very human struggles associated with managing intense emotions and thoughts without feeling consumed by them, living in the present moment without being haunted by memories of the past or worries about the future, and arriving at a place where our lives are dictated by us and our values, rather than by traumas and other stressful life experiences. At the heart of these very human struggles, there are often more paths than we realize toward resilience and self-compassion. My mission is to offer a therapy tailored to meet your unique needs, grounded in science, and guided by empirically supported best practices.

I'm a Licensed professional counselor and
addiction
therapist; trained in EMDR.
You don’t have to be diagnosed with a mental health problem to benefit from therapy. Many people in therapy seek help for everyday concerns: relationship problems, anxiety, job stress, low self-esteem or self-doubt, Others turn to therapy during difficult times, such as a trauma, depression bipolar, mood disorders, or relationship problems. But in order to reap its benefits, it’s important to choose the right therapist—someone you trust who makes you feel cared for and has the experience to help you make changes for the better in your life.

Addiction Therapists
What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.
How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.
How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.
How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason, “interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
