I often say it is my job to help make life better. Whether you are worrying too much (anxiety), feeling sad (depression), or dealing with trauma, I will do just that: Help make life better. I have experience with children, adolescents, adults and families and have worked in both the school system and in full-time private practice. My style is practical, and focuses a lot on coping mechanisms and strategies. I have had much success working on a variety of issues as noted below. I enjoy assisting in the progress and achievement of attaining goals. My COVID mission has been "always an opening" and now have associates too!

I am passionate about helping people grow and change. I have received training from some of the nation's foremost experts in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), though experience has taught me the importance of integrating other treatment models as well. I enjoy doing therapy and have a wealth of experience treating a variety of presenting problems. I particularly enjoy working with veterans, athletes and men's issues. Feel free to reach out to me. I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 30 years of private practice experience in the treatment of children, adolescents, adults and families over a wide range of presenting problems. I have practiced in a variety of treatment settings, including inpatient psychiatry, day hospital, and outpatient child and adolescent psychiatry.

It would be hard to argue that our lives haven't been a lot more complicated over the last few years. Dr. Dunia Karana Zebari is a clinical psychologist with extensive education and training in evidence-based psychotherapies. She received a BA degree from Oakland University, obtained her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Detroit Mercy, and completed a three-year NIH research fellowship at the University of Michigan Medical School, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  She specializes in treatments of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders (including combat trauma), and insomnia disorders. Dr. Zebari has extensive experience in couples treatment.

As a clinician, my goal is to offer a safe and open environment for clients as they explore the thoughts, feelings and challenges of their daily lives. I work with individuals, couples and family units struggling with issues related to various life changes and collaborate with my clients to identify goals and work towards healthy resolutions.

I work with children and adolescents ages 7-18. I specialize in Trauma across the Lifespan and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) but also work with a range of issues stemming from trauma such as depression, anxiety and/or suicidal ideations. I primarily work with individuals, but seek to create a partnership with parents as needed.

Every person I meet is unique and requires an individualized approach. I'm eclectic in both theory and in practice, so I personally tailor my outlook based on your needs and personality to find the direction best suited for you. Right now is an exceptional time requiring all of us to make changes; to adjust to a variety of stressors we hadn't even considered a short time ago. Thought processes, behaviors, and coping techniques are different. My Clinical Psychology private practice allows for maximum individual attention and confidentiality. Since 1988, I have specialized in treating trauma conditions resulting from war, auto, workplace, violence and residuals of childhood abuse. Related conditions include depression, anxiety, physical pain, relationship difficulties, addictions and cognitive disorders. As a result of auto and occupational injuries, many patients/clients suffer Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injuries; and they can greatly benefit from my individual and group psychotherapy.
