Life doesn’t have to be perfect—or completely unraveling—for therapy to be beneficial. You just have to start where you are. As a graduate-level counseling intern, under the direct supervision of Dr. Mallett, I am here to provide a safe, supportive, and judgment-free space for you to explore your thoughts, emotions, and goals. I specialize in client-centered therapy with a humanistic, culturally sensitive approach—recognizing that our lived experiences, identities, and cultural backgrounds shape the way we navigate life.

Life stress often leaves us feeling anxious with difficulty focusing, racing thoughts, insomnia, and general restlessness. We may feel as if there is a dark cloud over our eyes, a change of appetite, difficulty doing basic tasks. Changes cause stress and uncertainty. College, marriage, the birth of children, new jobs are positive life transitions that can also be unsettling and an adjustment. Moving, kids leaving home, retirement and losses such as divorce, passing of loved ones, caregiving and the aging process can cause a significant amount of stress. The good news is life transitions help us grow.

I believe counseling is a place to learn and grow. I will use techniques that encourage clients to find the solutions to their dilemmas within themselves. We have the freedom to choose what directions our life takes and the responsibility to take control of that freedom. As the counselor, I don't have the answers to clients' problems but am a guide in the process that helps the client(s) take responsibility, action, and come to a resolution. I may assign small homework that will help you learn and reach your goals. Your happiness and well-being are my main concerns.

The times we live in are increasingly stressful and complex for adults and elders (65+) who are struggling with health issues, grief, isolation, complex family dynamics, histories and relationships. Many people feel stuck, anxious and /or depressed. Those feelings then affect their behavior. Therapy does not make difficulties go away; it helps you change your relationship with them. Mental health is a function of the body, mind, spirit, social influence and, environment as well. You learn to appreciate your inner strength and gain respect, as opposed to being in destructive patterns.

Are you the strong one everyone relies on? Many of my clients are Black women who hold it all together but feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and unseen. Others are adult children navigating complicated relationships with parents or siblings—tired of the tension and ready to heal generational wounds. I help strong Black women release the pressure to perform strength and reconnect with their authentic selves. I also support adult families in breaking toxic patterns and improving communication so they can move forward, not just cope.

Life can be a complex journey full of ups and downs, twists and turns. There are times when you need help working through the emotions tied with those experiences. You may be working towards being kinder to yourself, working through anxiety, or managing any other curveball tossed your way. There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting help.

Life is full of twists and turns—some bring excitement, while others bring challenges. I feel uniquely privileged to be able to hear people’s stories and support them as they navigate each step of their journey. My goal as a therapist is to create a warm, compassionate space where you can freely explore your thoughts, process your experiences, and heal in a way that feels meaningful to you. I have particular experience and interest in working with teens and adults that are experiencing life transitions, navigating relationship conflict, healing from trauma, and learning how to manage their ADHD.

Often family history and life experiences have taught us unhealthy skills of dealing with the painful events in our lives. You may have found yourself in place where you are reacting in ways you never thought you would and not living the life you want. It's common to not even know why you are feeling the way you do. Exhaustion, frustration, anger and being easily overwhelmed are just a few common indicators there is something going on with your emotional self. If you are struggling know there is a different way.

We are all on a journey through life. Sometimes we have experiences on that journey that influence our patterns of emotions, thoughts and behaviors which contribute to problems in our lives. My goal is to help individuals identify when and how those patterns are contributing to the emotional distress they experience, identify strategies for change and support and encourage implementing those strategies for change. I have many years of experience working with individuals and families dealing with pregnancy, child welfare, adoption, child abuse and neglect, substance use disorders, and trauma.
