I'm currently operating from a waitlist. I provide a comfortable and judgment-free environment while also helping address the needs that are most important to you. I have provided therapy to both college-aged and adult populations in a variety of settings including several colleges and universities throughout the Midwest. I’ve worked with individuals facing a variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, adjustment-related stress, challenging relationship dynamics, grief/loss, and identity development.
Life stress often leaves us feeling anxious with difficulty focusing, racing thoughts, insomnia, and general restlessness. We may feel as if there is a dark cloud over our eyes, a change of appetite, difficulty doing basic tasks. Changes cause stress and uncertainty. College, marriage, the birth of children, new jobs are positive life transitions that can also be unsettling and an adjustment. Moving, kids leaving home, retirement and losses such as divorce, passing of loved ones, caregiving and the aging process can cause a significant amount of stress. The good news is life transitions help us grow.
My private practice includes work with adults, adolescents and couples, with a specialty in adolescence and young adulthood. I have particular experience in treating depression, eating disorders, relationship and divorce issues, dissociative disorders, and childhood abuse issues. My primary goals include helping people deepen their understanding of themselves and their current difficulties, identify problematic patterns in their lives, and work through old hurts within a safe, understanding therapeutic relationship. I have given several talks to parents in the metro Detroit area preparing for and parenting their adolescent children.
I am focused on helping individuals who may be going through a difficult time period in their life and are currently struggling with depression, adjustment issues, life transitions, divorce, parenting struggles, anxiety, grief and loss, recurrent relationships difficulties, family problems, body image, and overall feeling of hopelessness.
I believe counseling is a place to learn and grow. I will use techniques that encourage clients to find the solutions to their dilemmas within themselves. We have the freedom to choose what directions our life takes and the responsibility to take control of that freedom. As the counselor, I don't have the answers to clients' problems but am a guide in the process that helps the client(s) take responsibility, action, and come to a resolution. I may assign small homework that will help you learn and reach your goals. Your happiness and well-being are my main concerns.
I have 30 years of counseling and case management experience, helping clients with a variety of concerns: depression, anxiety, stress, relationship issues, codependency, boundaries, self-esteem, life adjustments, grief/loss, work-related concerns, substance use disorders, health issues, caregiver stress, etc. I can assist someone with short-term solution focused counseling, or more chronic concerns such as abuse and trauma. I also offer completion of the Substance Use Evaluation for Driver License Appeal in Michigan. UPDATE: I am a Board Certified Case Manager, as my "day job" is a CM in medical family practice.
I'm more than just a family psychologist. As a busy mother, wife, and career-loving person myself, I've been there. I understand how hard it is to get everyone into the same room at dinner time, let alone into my office for a session. You want to know that the time you spend with me is worth it, and I don't blame you.

You may be working towards being kinder to yourself, working through anxiety, or managing any other curveball tossed your way. There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting help.
Often family history and life experiences have taught us unhealthy skills of dealing with the painful events in our lives. You may have found yourself in place where you are reacting in ways you never thought you would and not living the life you want. It's common to not even know why you are feeling the way you do. Exhaustion, frustration, anger and being easily overwhelmed are just a few common indicators there is something going on with your emotional self. If you are struggling know there is a different way.
