As a licensed psychotherapist I create a safe, non-judgmental environment where patients share their fears, deepest thoughts, and feelings. I strongly believe being your true authentic self is integral to utilizing therapy to achieve growth and overcome challenging obstacles. Although I have a particular interest in working with depression in women, I am well prepared to take on a wide range of issues. My general therapeutic approach is cognitive-behavioral therapy. However, I individualize my therapy technique to fit the needs of patients.
Brittney Daftuar is a Fully Licensed Clinical Master Social Worker with a Level II endorsement in Infant Mental Health. She received her Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Detroit-Mercy and her Master of Social Work degree from Wayne State University. She specializes in working with adults and children experiencing depression, anxiety, ADHD, relationship issues, self-esteem issues, and behavioral issues. She prides herself in building relationships with her clients to meet their goals.
My main specialty is the LGBTQ+ community, which I am part of. I also work with depression, anxiety, trauma, and adults with ADHD or Autism. I have particular experience with non-binary and transgender individuals, childhood trauma, and addiction. The main thing I want to stress is that whoever you are, whatever you're dealing with, my goal and my passion is to help people find their inner strength and to know themselves. I want to help you trust yourself, rely on yourself, and to help you learn how to not just overcome your challenges but go beyond that and become the best version of yourself you can be because you deserve that.
I work both individually and in groups with men/boys seeking support exploring how masculine socialization relates to their problems, and cultivating healthier masculinity to heal themselves, their interpersonal relationships, and patriarchal systems of gender-based oppression in their communities. I also work with a variety of clients of different backgrounds and experiences looking for a therapist with an anti-oppressive lens, who will regard the client as the expert on their life and experiences, and see their struggles in the integrated context of the personal, cultural, and universal levels of their human experience.
As a therapist, my aim is to provide support to people as they deal with life's challenges. Life can be overwhelming and I enjoy helping people navigate the challenges that arise in a healthy way. I specialize in working with those who experience depression, low self-esteem, and/or have a history of trauma. During sessions, I focus on creating an emotionally safe space so that together, we can explore your concerns and help you move towards healing. If appropriate, I am comfortable incorporating your spirituality in sessions. I believe in the mind/body/spirit connection and am open to exploring this in session as well.
Do you worry excessively? Have panic attacks; difficulty sleeping; specific phobias; stomach aches? Does your anxiety affect your relationships? WE CAN HELP! We provide a wide range of therapeutic interventions from assessment to treatment, employing evidence-based strategies to help you become well. I am a fully licensed psychologist, director of the center, clinician and international trainer of health care professionals. I am a certified Imago therapist, consultant with the University of Michigan's School of Medicine's Department of Complementary and Alternative Research and have been distinguished as an elected fellow of both The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and the Michigan Psychological Association.
I believe our mental health is just as important as our physical health, and my goal is to remove the stigmatism that is associated with addressing what is often times referred to is “mental illness.” When in fact, one of the benefits of counseling is to find a neutral resource to directly listen to you and to help you sort through “life", when things become overwhelming and challenging. My therapeutic style is to focus on the solution and not the actual problem. My goal is to provide you with the tools necessary to fill your toolbox.
Your story matters. Sometimes that can be hard to fathom in a world of so many but it’s true. Everything that you have been through- your experiences in life, your relationships and your point of view - all matter. They are just elements of what has shaped you into who you are today, how you move through each day, and how you might envision your future. When life feels especially hard and even unmanageable, it can be helpful to meet with a therapist who is passionate about helping others navigate these challenges. Finding a therapist you connect with, and who provides a space where you feel heard and respected, is so important.
I provide psychological services for all age groups, addressing a wide variety of mental health issues. I have worked in many different settings in different countries and have a commitment to helping people overcome the problems that cause roadblocks to a healthy and happy life.
It is safe to say, life doesn’t always go according to plan. And at times seeking help and support is the most courageous step you can take. YOU are the narrator of your story, and it is my hope to guide you to be the best possible version of yourself. Over the past 11 years I have worked with clients dealing with chronic illness, situational stress, anxiety, relationship issues, motivation, self-esteem & depression through an eclectic approach using CBT, systems theory, motivational interviewing and DBT.
*Currently accepting clients via teletherapy* I am a firm believer in providing a safe space for any and all of the barriers individuals experience. From setting boundaries, to communicating feelings, to coping with difficult situations, everyone can benefit from a supportive and growth-centered environment. I aim to provide that for all of my clients. I have extensive experience working with children of all ages and adults, both individually and in family-centered treatment. I approach my work in a collaborative way and focus on helping my clients where they are to get where they would like to be.
We all have an ideal image of ourselves. For most people, this ideal is met when we are at our happiest and most content. You might be feeling like there are always aspects of life that will get in the way of this ideal vision: low self-worth, stress, family conflict, and anxiety. The list could go on and on. I wonder what would happen if we all made a commitment to ourselves to work on removing those barriers to wellness? I enjoy working with people to foster their relationships with others in addition to their relationship with themselves.
I specialize in anxiety and depression, conflict mediation and resolution, as well as issues related to gender identity and sexual orientation. I have experience working with adolescents and adults as well as individuals and groups experiencing difficulties with stress, self-esteem, identity, relationships, and personal and professional changes.
Are you taking care of others-not yourself, experiencing anxiety, unable to be in the moment, disconnected from relationships, unsatisfied with your current life, stressed, stuck? Do you long for healing and transformation that comes through the power of the Holy Spirit? Do you desire to connect your Christian faith with your mental health? During the process of Formational Prayer, both the source and symptoms of core woundings are brought into the light of Jesus Christ, where He alone can set people free. PLEASE note: Formational Prayer is not Professional Counseling, and not billable to insurance.
I love stories and as a counselor, I find it a privilege to help people take ownership of their life stories. Some of us wish that our stories featured different characters, took place in a different setting, or would follow a new plot line. The truth is that we all need to do some editing or re-writing from time to time. My goal as a counselor is to provide a safe place for you to come as you are and be reminded that there is always hope for the next chapter of your story. Hope that leads to change, growth, and perhaps even a plot twist.
I provide a wide range of outpatient mental health and substance abuse services for adolescents and adults, that are designed to unlock your potential and help you build a better life.
