I work with individuals, couples and families, both together and estranged, including adolescents. My style is personal and interactive, informed by my training in psychodynamic and family therapy. After many years of experience, I appreciate, and think my patients appreciate, the value of thoughtful listening, helping them come to insights an solutions from the inside out. I have long worked with people with addiction problems - alcohol, drugs, gambling and sexual - and with their partners and families. These and other problems often originate in childhood, including but not exclusively, childhood traumas, with lasting effects.
I listen; I ask questions; I try to understand my clients from the inside out. I try to connect person-to-person. Depending on the particular situation, I may want to see the family, partner/spouse, parents as well. A presenting symptom is just that: a presentation. Of what? Why this particular conflict? Why now? These are some of the questions I ask.
I prefer to see my clients in person, as one learns more and connects better face-to-face. But I also see people online, when in-person sessions are inconvenient.
