I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 25 years experience working with children, adolescents, adults and families. I believe we all strive to feel a sense of belonging and to master any task before us. I view emotional, behavioral and relationship problems as distress signals indicating that current attempts at realizing important healthy strivings are not working. Repetitive, unsatisfying patterns of interaction can result, leaving everyone involved feeling discouraged, isolated and "stuck". This is usually when folks seek counseling for themselves or their loved ones.
My approach to counseling is to listen carefully, engaging all as full partners in the process to rediscover healthy strivings within the presenting problem; create a clear vision of what is desired; and collaborate on strategies to find the path forward.
This process involves tapping into each person's internal wisdom, motivations and other resources. I will also encourage the participation of family members and significant others whenever possible. I have found that this contributes greatly to quicker and longer lasting positive results..
