I currently find that the majority of my practice is made up of adults and older teens who report symptoms of anxiety, depression or trauma. For many different diagnoses or issues these symptoms are often the most apparent and focusing on them has helped get people in the door to explore other areas such as self-compassion, emotional validation, and communication. Ideally my clients are looking for someone to help them on the road to thinking, behaving, and feeling better. Someone to give nudges in more effective directions and cheer them on when they succeed, but not someone who will do all of the work for them.
I practice from a primarily CBT and REBT focused lens, so my clients should expect to spend some time exploring the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and actions as well as the patterns that get them feeling stuck. That being said, I have also built up flexibility to use other methods when they are more appropriate for the client or their needs.
I genuinely love working with people who feel like they have been stuck dealing with a repetitive negative cycle and helping them find the clues on how to make changes to better overcome obstacles and feel proud of themselves again.
