Michael Aanavi, PhD, LAc, Psychologist in Anchorage
I see psychotherapy as being a process of healing rather than a method of treatment; beyond relieving uncomfortable symptoms, healing is really about becoming as fully as possible who we are, about becoming free to make our own choices, and about developing compassion for ourselves and others. My approach focuses on facilitating the wisdom of the psyche, and on going together into whatever experiences this process requires. I work with people with a variety of conditions, including stress-related & mind-body health, trauma/PTSD, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, addiction/alcoholism recovery, chronic pain, and many other physical & mental health concerns.
As both a clinical psychologist and a licensed acupuncturist, in addition to psychotherapy I also offer acupuncture & Chinese herbal medicine, with an emphasis on the relationship between physical and psychological health. This may include classical & contemporary acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, nutritional counseling, medical qigong, and other traditional methods and modalities.
